How to use multiple cores?

Postby Ravenplucker » Sat Jan 15, 2011 4:34 am

I have 2 CPUs but Algodoo only ever uses one no matter how intensive the scene is. How do make it use the other CPU?

I forget if they're called cores or CPUs, sorry about that.

One would think it would be Threading.numThreads = 2
but in my case, on a six core system, it only still uses one core.

Oh man, that sucks so much... the "Threading.numThreads" must be a placeholder for the future... I hope it's a placeholder for the future in any case.

I've noticed it is not just a place holder but offers some slight usage of my second core.

It would appear that algodoo IS using more than one core, but not to the extent in which it could.

On my machine, with a complex simulation and sim.frequency = 1000, I'll have a single core at 100% and one core about a third way up. CPU usage tops out at 21%. My other four cores are sitting idle.

Kinda odd. :/

[Edit]
I should also note: Algodoo appears to take more CPU when paused. ( 30%)

I have an 8core (4core with HT) system, have set threading.numthreads to 8, still used only 1 core.. although there are some peaks where it uses 14% (13% is rounded from 12.5% CPU usage which equals one core on 100%)

Yea I don't think it's possible yet, but I really hope they implement it soon...it would really help with the more intense scenes.
