Agile Rocket-pod Lander!
This is my first scene using the full version of Algodoo, so be gentle! (jks, I want criticism)
You control a small rocket-pod which you have to land on the landing pad to the right.
"W" is thrust
"A" tilts you left
"D" tilts you right
There is not terribly much fuel due to some lag problems, and so the distance is consequently shorter.
Advice and criticism is most welcome!

Re: Agile Rocket-pod Lander!
Really nice, the lack of fuel makes it extra hard, but it is possible if you do it good.
Keep on the good work

NICE!
I assume it's OK if I modify this and give you credit?
I have a long list of suggestions, so I will probably implement them myself.
Hmmmmmm... Maybe I could use this technology in the Modular Spaceship Collab... if that's OK with you.
Still, really cool scene.

- Put more fuel on the discs, so you can turn them slower and it lasts longer. It lags none for me.
- Make the landing pad thing a big rocket with the pad thing on the top.
- Add a hyper mode to the fuel discs, so when you hold shift they consume more fuel for more thrust.
- Make some way of refueling by replacing old fuel discs with new ones.
- Add a key to the motors on the landing pad so you can open it manually.

Matthias Wandel is epic, in my humble opinion.

I would be glad to (indirectly) help the collab! With due credit, of course.
And thanks for the ideas by the way. I'm already thinking about an automated refueling station.

Re: Agile Rocket-pod Lander!
With the automated refueling station, I was thinking something like the fuel discs collide on F, and the fuel itself still collides on G.
The disc would somehow be held in place by some frictionless boxes or something, and would be turned by a motorized, high-friction disc. Not sure how you would get the restitution box into place without the engine exploding, but it maybe could be possible with killers.
Needless to say, there would be some way of ejecting the spent fuel discs and replacing them with new ones.
Or maybe, you would replace the engine as a whole. That way, you would not need to worry about the engine exploding, but you would need a new set of control keys.
Or a new set of transmission keys.
I have built by own version of your rocket, and it incorporates a hyper-drive. Basically, hold Z for normal drive and X for hyper-drive. The arrow keys control each individual motor , while Z and X control the speed. I will post my version as soon as I finish a landing pad for it. It doesn't look as good as yours, but it works. And quite well at that- in normal drive, the performance is similar to yours, but in hyper-drive, it can easily hit the roof.
I haven't this this yet, but I think holding Z and X results in spaz-drive.
EDIT: This so-called spaz-drive is actually exactly the same as hyper-drive.
Anyway, I have completed a fully-functioning landing pad, so I have posted it onto Algobox.
Next, I will put this landing pad onto a scaled-up version of the rocket. With different transmission keys.
Oh, and, do you think we should move this onto the Collab forum?

Re: Agile Rocket-pod Lander!
Replacable fuel discs would be quite difficult. I was thinking having the discs based on squares, which themselves are attached to rails. As long as the pod and station rails are the same, the discs can be placed with a precision which will prevent explosions. Since it is so guided it will be relatively easy to use sequenced pistons to move the fuel disc/blocks around. Each fuel disc has an inner circle which would be used to turn it. (maybe use circle-gears?)
This is just a little demo scene, it doesn't really function.

Opinion?
***EDIT*** Nah, don't move it. This isn't large enough in scope for a proper collab.

Re: Agile Rocket-pod Lander!
Nice! This will be very useful. I take it you plan to mount this on the landing pad thing. I would suggest that the restitution boxes are mounted on the box with the fuel disc. And scaled-down C-gears would work well, I think.
A few quick modifications got this thing shooting a line of purple balls straight down.
I will let you handle this thing, as I have three projects on hand. Namely, the big rocket thing and two other things on the Modular Spaceship Collab.
Also note that one motor straining against another causes spaz-drive.
And, would you mind leaving some space between the angled engines on your next edition so I can use it for a shuttle?
Oh, and I would be a bit happier if you were a bit nicer to your guests. Sorry, that's just me.
Also, on the left side of the scene description page, there is a box labeled Scene Tag that you can put on the forum.
***EDIT*** We'll see about that. I just advertised us on the Modular Spaceship Collab.
EDIT- Here is the big rocket with the landing pad on it. As the description says, it doesn't really work, but it is mostly a proof of concept.
Also, the link to the Modular Spaceship Collab is here.

Re: Agile Rocket-pod Lander!
C-gears = circle gears?
I'm going to modify the angled engines in the next version so there shall be a decent amount of room. The side thrusters were too bulky. I think I'm going to make them point straight to the sides aswell (to each the refueling process)
I wasn't aware I had any guests...?

I call them C-gears because it's short and could stand for circle-gears or Conundrumer gears, after their inventor.
I would still point the side thrusters to the side and down, because I found that on your first scene in this topic I could still get some thrust after all the fuel in the pointed-down engines had been used up by holding A and D. However, this doesn't work on my rocket with hyper-drive
Also, if the restitution boxes are fixated to the square that carries the fuel disc, then there is no problem with pointing it wherever you want.
When I mentioned guests, I referred to anyone who looked at or downloaded your proof-of-concept.
Oh, and nice save by saying earlier that using sequenced pistons would be RELATIVELY easy.

Re: Agile Rocket-pod Lander!
Due to my quite short attention span I have lost interest in this little project. I'll probably resume is later when I feel more interested.
Good luck!

So much for that.
This sort of thing happens to me a lot, I've got like 25 completed scenes and 70+ uncompleted ones...

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

Re: Agile Rocket-pod Lander!
Well, the best I can do is ask if Ravenplucker can upload what he did not complete, so I can do it for him.
Well, here goes..
Ravenplucker, would you mind uploading whatever you had but didn't complete so I can work on it? Please? Because I really want this to be finished? Because when it is it will be awesome?

Re: Agile Rocket-pod Lander!
I included little descriptions. These were just some ideas I had.
Sorry if they're unclear, I haven't slept for 30 hours...
[scene]50693[/scene]
Most of my ideas failed. I'm not too good with mechanics.
