"variable" editor

Postby electronicboy » Fri Sep 24, 2010 6:06 pm

i think that some implementation of the windows registry editor should be added to algodoo.
it should basically list all of the variables that a user can access for example scene.my. and app. and allow a user to change the variables.

This could (Thus would) be used for malicious uses.

I don't see how. I think it'd be hella useful. I've tried to find certain variables, but to no avail. I have to go to Grady's variable list to find them, which takes a while.

I honestly can't see it being used for stuff like that.

Which actually adds a point to it, values that have a default values should have a reset to default button.

Also, the window would only show values that are avaliable using the console.

Is this suggestion similar to below one? I suggested it at 2008-08-15. ;)
Easy way to check and change the Thyme variables

Btw, you can use / for searching variables. This feature is very useful.
Changelog(v1.7.2) wrote:* Added console search via / (example: type in "/gravity" and press enter).
Changelog(v1.8.0) wrote:* Tab-completion and search (/) in console now shows information about suggestions (value, default, description).

To translators: English.cfg changelog will be useful (even for me).

yes it is.

I think that while a lot of people know how to use the console, using a window system is a lot friendlier to new people (especially those that are afraid of command line systems)and may also be faster in a lot of cases.

if it is added, i think some of the things from your's should be added, for example' the key bindings

Eh kind of skim read the Thread figured something about editing windows registry's.
Still i keep my -1 support its not that hard to write down variables used and at very worst open the phn file.

You have read it wrong.
it would be designed like the registry editor, but would only edit algodoo's variables, for example the scene.my, variables, not the windows registry,

I'm pretty sure this can't be used maliciously.

Support.

I definitely see malicious use, he clearly would alter the hidden reality variable for obvious terroristic purposes.

I like it, +1

Open console
Pump in scene.my [TAB]
Tab key will show all variables. With the new copy and paste ability in the console you can easily edit your variables.
Problem solved?

What if you have a crapload of variables and you can't find the one you want?

And the main idea is to move away from the console.
Not rely on its new features.

Unless you have like 100 that wouldn't be a problem.
you can also use "/" to search
I.e /scene.my.var or /var
