Gradient fill

Postby Kilinich » Wed Sep 08, 2010 11:17 am

Imagine how can one simple gradient texture makes scene looks way better:

[scene]46081[/scene]

I think it's easy to implement gradient fill and, as you can see, scenes will be with much better graphics ( and no textures mean better performance, smaller size).

I kinda support this, but it doesn't seem like it's that useful to me.

I'm not sure about this, because it is so simple to make gradients in gimp or other programs, not to mention they are not very big files if they are just small .bmp or .png files.

Actually it is, because Kilinich can make better scenes, wich makes you happier (I think).

All this involves really is adding like three or four textures.

How will it know which way to add the Gradient though? The tool would surely be buggy.
Sorry Kilinich, you usually make great suggestions, but i do not support this :(

And in Inkscape (An Open Source vector graphics editor).

Gradient fill will make sky and sea look better.

^ I like this movie. But this scene will become better with gradient fill.

That was a rather cool video.
Ok, i can understand how the tool would work though.
Wouldn't you preffer to do it manually though? It may be time consuming, but people would be like "Wow, that guy really put some effort into this". Go search up the author: JaXnash on Algobox, and you'll see what i mean.
I don't think this task needs to be automated, still, no support from me, sorry :(

A small gradient texture doesn't take up much space and it also doesn't cause performance drops.

Well, if you want "true" gradient, from any color to any, you need many textures. Plus radial gradient can be handy too.

But all is possible in GIMP. I use gradient textures all the time, and it doesn't affect performance. Sorry, I don't support :|

Textures do cause performance drops. Grady released one a while ago that lagged my main computer, and that's saying something.
