Another 3D suggestion

Postby Matten » Sun Aug 29, 2010 10:00 am

I know a lot of people suggested 3D before, but I've got another idea of how to make Algodoo "3D".
COLLISION LAYER 3D!
It works like the most people are trying to make something "3D". Collision layer A is at the front, G is back. It's very hard to explain so I'll show some pictures.

Also, instead of only looking from this side, you can rotate and pan and zoom the camera. In advanced scenes this could be changed with for example scene.camera.3Dpos = [x,y,z] and scene.camera.3Drotation = [x,y,z].

This is already invented, It's called 2.5D It's in such things like Little Big Planet. Technically speaking Algodoo is already in 2.5D that is what collision layers already are.

Let's set this straight Algodoo is marketed as a 2D Physics Sandbox. Asking for Algodoo to be in 3D is like asking Activision to make the next Modern Warfare game in 1941. You see how this would be a huge cluster fuck? Besides there are other 3D Physics engines out there you don't need to look past Garrys mod to find one.

That would be making it way too complicated.

This.

We already have the basic idea of this already implemented into Algodoo/Phun.

And, yes, this is 2.5D, not 3D. Full 3D is something that I don't think will ever be implemented into Algodoo/Phun, or at-least not for a very long while.

Making Algodoo 3D would be like making Call of Duty similar to Super Mario. It's not going to happen. Algoryx has got a 3D software so I'm pretty sure Algodoo wouldn't be converted to 3D. It wouldn't be Algodoo anymore :/

Making a FPS into a TPS (Technically). Not that difficult -.-
Your analogy fails.

Yeah, that analogy sucks. Turning CoD into SMB would be complete fucking win. Turning Algodoo into 3D would suck.

I don't dislike this idea.
But, how about water and NSC-objects?

This feature might be good for checking collision layer.
But suggested 3D-world (well, 2.5D-world?) has strangeness.
Water can go through object.
And object which has NSC (no-self-collision) also can do so.
It may confuse us. :s
