In-game camera tool

Postby Ivanlul » Fri Jun 25, 2010 5:16 am

I think Algodoo should have in-game cameras, it would add more functionality to the program because it will allow people to monitor a part of a scene while "being" at another part.

The camera would look like this: http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/1719/23234.png

A new button would be added to the button window, let's call this button the "camera tool ". The camera tool should be very similar to the rectangle tool but it will creative rectangles that do not collide with anything. These rectangles should make a window appear, as seen in the fake screen shot. The camera rectangle should behave like a normal rectangle (can be fixated to objects, fall, rotate) and whatever is "inside" the rectangle should be shown on the window.

Agreed, and supported.

But how about not making this camera tool another window inside the existing Algodoo main window? It would be much better to have it outside the main window, so it didn’t take up more space in the main window.

Unless you have the Algodoo window fullscreen or maximized.

If one is made, I sure hope it doesn't slow down the performance a lot like many screen recorders do.

Wait, I'm confused... Is this a suggestion for a built-in video recorder or is it a suggestion for a "second screen" sort of thing?

It would be like a second screen within the screen.

If you could use the secondary screen just as the primary, it would be great.

I think he means that if you have two monitors, they could each show different areas of Algodoo.

My suggestion is a window within algodoo that shows a part within the scene, independent of where algodoo is "looking".

Would it just be a camera or will you be able to draw in it. If its just a camera then I support, but the draw/whatever in it thing would be fairly slow I'd think.

Yes

Imagine what people would do with this.... I can think of one thing, a racing game with the speed and acceleration monitored with a block that has a camera looking on it.
If at first you don't succeed skydiving is not for you.

Secondary camera will be useful also for education.
I'll use this feature to explain Coriolis effect.
