Yes, but then you see a big circle. Once again we are back to square one. If you scale a tracer big enough to make a big rectangular trail, you see a big circle. If you have a rectangular tracer, you get the same trail without seeing a big circle. You see nothing but the trail.

Move the tracer behind the object and make the object the same color as the tracer. That way, you don't even need to scale it.

UUmm.. but if you want to add a big tracer to a thin object, no matter what you do, you still see the circle.

And if you wanted to add a big rectangular tracer to an object, you'd still see the tracer.

No, you could change the width of the tracer, without changing the length. That's why it would work better than a circle.

Actually, a scalable circle would work just fine, as this picture shows:

As you can see, the circle and rectangle are the same hight and width. The black lines represent the outline of the trail they leave. The trails are the same. Scalable circles would be just fine, we don't need rectangles.

RicH wrote:Well that was a major point change. At first you were talking about how a bunch of tracers could achieve the effect of a rectangular tracer, now you're saying that they have to actually develop something like a rectangular tracer first(obviously). It's very confusing to know what point you're trying to make.

The point is that if you want just a concept then you can use several tracers to form a rectangle.
But as matten said that you wanted it to be slightly transparent you'd need to make a rectangle tracer as it's not possible to achieve with multiple tracers. Sorry for being unclear, haven't slept much this week... Not the past week either...

I supported the first idea, so the second does also get it.

i've thymed a rectangular tracer, but it just wont work after saving(appatently polygon closes at [0,0], rendering the generated polygon uselses)...

I get the feeling that it doesn't work in 1.7.4, because it just shoot a beam of almighty light down at the ground then up into the air.

it did work in 1.7.4 - before saving.

the polygon vectors don't end at all, and get to [0,0]. the vector isn't drawn if its angle is too big.
EDIT: i found out that the position of the last vectors don't save.
EDIT2: updated scene. downloading test shows it works... it still has a rendering lag(draws from last position), which i'm planning to mitigate.

The Square shaped tracers will be good for new displays etc.

So, you bumped a nearly two-month-old topic, quoted a post from the beginning of the topic (we've already worked things out after that), and said that I'm uncreative. Good job making even more of a fool of yourself.

Again, it would eventually become impossible to see because it would overlap itself, making a block. The only way you would be able to see it is if it left a mark every x second(s) for y second(s), which would be useful to have, even for round tracers.

?
I think he means that the tracer would create a polygon, so actually the normal brush tool but then it follow a point on an object.

No, just a tracer that can be put on an object similar to the way you would use the brush tool; like "spreading" the tracer.
At different angles, a box tracer can look very different from a round one.
I like using the brush tool instead of boxes for the record.

Press play, and start drawing a thing with the brush tool. Don't let go of the left mouseclick button. Wait ~8 seconds. LlalalalaaAAAAaAAAaAaAAAAGgGGGGG

When I read this I thought you might be able to create tracers that act like calligraphy pens, similar to the
brush tool "Calligraphy" option.

Chronos, it think your missing the point. Correct me if i'm wrong but I think dare wants to be able to create a long thin rectangluar tracer so if it moves in a certain direction, ie along its length it will leave a thin trail, but if it is moved perpendicular to the longest side (90 Degrees from the other direction) it will appear very wide. This would be good for tire tracks, for top down games, since the surface contact of a tire is a line with he ground, will look better than lots of circles like i have used in the past.

So, support.
