Dynamite Contest :D

Postby cdh473 » Fri Sep 11, 2009 2:05 am

Okay, here are the rules:
You must make a stick of dynamite that MUST be detonated by a simple blasting cap(thyme is allowed), and be VERY stable(support at least 100,000 kg w/o detonating). It must take down the demonstrative tower, without
getting more than a total of 2 pieces of debris outside of the demolition zone.
You may use up to 7 of your dynamite sticks. They must completely bring down the structure, without any pieces of the dynamite coming out of the demolition zone.
http://www.algodoo.com/algobox/details.php?id=30821
that is the demolition zone.

Point system-
Start at 100
-10 for each piece of debris that gets away
-10 for non-compactness
-10 for an unrealistically large explosion
-30 for not bringing the WHOLE tower down
-10 for not instantly bringing it down
-20 for no pancaking
-googolplex for cheating(attraction, deletion, pulling, etc.)

Happy Phunning/Algodooing!

The tower is absurdly strong. Even an "unrealistically strong" explosion wouldn't break more than a couple of its hinges, and even then it's still held together by springs.

If you cut its strength by 10x, down to 10-15Nm break strength, the contest would become possible, but the springs would still make it impossible to totally destroy.

There are also loopholes in the rules. A Thyme-triggered attraction bomb (not repulsion, though) could collapse it quite easily, without doing any real damage (I did this, and then dragged the tower back upright. It stood just fine).

This could be a pretty decent contest, but the tower needs a great deal of work before it becomes anything other than exploit-the-loopholes.

I agree. I even tried to create aprox 8600 balls ontop of each other with density 100.. tower did NOT fall.
I'd like this contest a lot, but its just.. too strong tower. Thats it :/

No actual explosive will damage the tower. The hinges will stretch several times the width of the tower before they break, so pretty much anything will just escape between the parts of the tower.

What does work is to create a rectangle above the tower, and suddenly drag it down way under the ground, leaving the tower squished like 50ft into the ground. And that only breaks half the hinges.

there, that's how it was supposed to be.
As for the springs, don't worry about them, just pretend they're not there.

yes, a normal dynamite would not make NEAR as much initial damage, they are placed strategically so that they will just weaken the structure and make it crumble, not actually destroy the building itself directly.

Ach so. Well I knew that but its meant to be very compact so that you would'nt need as many of them, instead an very concentrated one :) But... If I get time, I'll maybe make another one...

Well, it's fine until someone tops your entry :)
You've got a 90!

But anyways, as soon as someone hits 100, I'm ending this.
It shouldn't continue then, that would be pointless.
You're almost there, sniperkasa.

Someone will get 100 ;)
If I'm wrong, it ends whenever I feel like ending it, which gives you guys a LOT of time.
The reward is two things:
1.)The personal satisfaction of winning(lol).
2.)Having a dynamite to use in your own stuff ;)
