default directory for scene files
My kids told me today that their scene files were gone. I looked, and the files are there, it's just that Algodoo has changed the default directory it's looking in. The default relative directory that comes up is:
Algodoo/scenes
Based on where I found the kids' files, this used to refer to:
C:/Users/<user name>/Documents/Algodoo/scenes
But now it is apparently pointing to:
C:/Program Files/Algodoo/scenes
If I type in the full path to the "Users" scenes directory, all the files show up. But the next load scene goes right back to the program files. Should I just move the kids' files to the program files directory? Is this where they should have been all along, so the samples files and kids files show up together? How did they all get in 2 different directories? How did the default change suddenly (back) to the samples directory?

Re: default directory for scene files
Algodoo's default directory should be C:/Users/<user name>/Documents/Algodoo/scenes no scenes should be stored in the Program files/Algodoo Directory except for the sample scenes which are not used by Algodoo at all (I belive they are only to serve as a back-up in case you delete them from the Documents/Algodoo). Due to issues with Vista/Win 7 Algodoo won't change anything out side of Documents/Algodoo.
Also include version of Algodoo and your Operating system.

Re: default directory for scene files
in algodoo, open the options menu, open the reset tab, and click the button in there.
you will only loose your configuration but this should fix the problem.
if not try installing algodoo (the scene's in my documents will still be there) and reinstall.

Re: default directory for scene files
Version of Algodoo was 1.7.1 (and still is), and O/S is Windows Vista Home Premium (SP2).
The reset didn't change anything, and I redownloaded 1.7.1 and reinstalled it (after uninstalling first), but it didn't change anything either. The install lets me confirm the program files directory for the program, but it does not say anything about the data files directory. This is defaulting to the program files directory. (I'd bought a product license previously, so the game has been unlocked through all this.)
One other note - my wife tells me of another "hiccup" or two that happened on this computer at about the same time as the Algodoo troubles. The home page for IE has been reset to MSN (from Google), and for a time, the desktop changed back to a default setup, but the custom setup has (mostly) returned. Boy do I hate Vista - I use XP on my computer with no troubles.

Re: default directory for scene files
i advise that you run a full virus scan on the machine (mainly too be on the safe side).
also, attach a copy of the log-files in the algodoo in my documents
and see if it has put any in the programs directory.

A virus scan probably won't be necessary
.
If you have done a system restore it could be possible some of the setting reverted to Phun's behaviors (If you've never used Phun on your computer then probably not)
-Do a check of where Algodoo is saving the scenes that might prove helpful.

Re: default directory for scene files
the reason i advised the scan is because of his other "hiccups".

The beta is in beta for a reason, mainly because it is still very buggy and if you were to use it you couldn't upload any scenes to Algobox.

Re: default directory for scene files
As has been pointed out, Documents/Algodoo/ is the default directory for saving/loading scenes. However, this may in some cases revert to Program Files/Algodoo/ if there is a problem during startup. If there is, this should show up in the log files (found either in Program Files/Algodoo/Logfile.txt or Documents/Algodoo/Logfile.txt, depending on how serious this problem is). Please delete Logfile.txt (both if applicable), start and quit Algodoo, and paste the entire contents of the new Logfile here. Maybe then I can see what's wrong.
