20mb (or higher) upload limit.

Postby lethalsquirrel » Sun Jun 20, 2010 5:37 am

i just spent weeks on a scene only to find out it was past the 15mb limit. :problem: all that work pretty much for nothing. i think the upload limit should be increased so people who make scenes with allot of textures can upload their scenes. very few people reach 15 mega bytes anyway so it wouldn't hurt to let give us a higher limit.

15 Mb is stupid. If your cramped 15Mb worth of pictures into your scene your doing it wrong, on so many levels.

Try editing your pictures with something like Gimp or Paint.net so
A) You only have the part of the picture you need
B) You have the pictures at the quality you need

If i had things my way the download limit would be lowered to 10Mb

I always was interested, if I'll repack .phz archives with the bigger compression and upload them in Algobox, will it recognize them correctly?

I believe it won't, seeing as you altered the .phz archive majorly. I remember Link saying something about Algobox checking the .phz using the checksums... That is assuming that Algodoo could even recognize it.

Test show, that algodoo can read repacked .phz archives. And checksum is hold in "checksums.txt" so it is carefully packed too. But I can't say this about Algobox, that's why I think, I'll make an experiment.

Algodoo uses a third party program called Libzipfor it compression/decompression needs. So Algodoo should be able to run any sort of zip format.

Although this doesn't really matter, as you can't really compress images they are already significantly compressed.

Also
The checksum is like a manifest it records everything that is supposed to be in the Phz file and its adds it encoded signature. If anything isn't on the "manifest" Algobox will reject it . Stops people sneaking viruses onto algobox.

But seriously if your scene needs to be 20Mb, you are stupid. I don't see how anyone could need that many textures.

the thing is i am using PNG images, the ones that dont have any background, and those tend to take up a lot of space, ive tried to edit them to make them small but it doesnt really work

1Mb is more than enough!! Use a image Optimizor if you really need to lower the file sizes of the pictures!

GIFs are transparent and even smaller than PNGs.

The suggestion area isn't your personal play room so that if you have a problem some one else can fix it.
Deal with it.

Why is everyone so negative about this, I don't get it. So he could use a different file type, so what, he has already spent a lot of time on the scene. What would it matter if the limit was raised, I don't think that that many people would go over the current limit anyways.
Even so, why not just upload it to a different media sharing site, won't that serve the same purpose?
Either way, your total rejection of this idea is a little overboard it seems.

<insert Mystery is a moron joke here>

Anyway, no. 20MB is unneeded and generally hard to load in Algodoo(as it's big and stuff).

I've never had a problem with the size limit. My largest scene is like 3MB.

No 100kb now is too small, 1mb or even 2mb is much more suitable.

100kb = beta2(0r 3, i dont remember)... in that time they used polygons instead of boxes... that increased file size... back in the time, scenes that coumplex were laggy.

I think 100kb is too little, especially for a textured scene. I'm fine with 3-5MB though.

15mb is more than enough. If you need over 10, then your really doing something worng, and nobody wants to download somethig that big anyway.
