Air pressure, combustion

Postby Rad » Wed May 26, 2010 8:56 pm

I've been messing with Algodoo for quite a bit of time now, and I really like the software.
What I think would make it even more amazing is the implementation of air pressure and stuff that burns to add up air pressure.
In my mind, you could have some settings for the fuel, such as liquid or solid, the pressure or heat needed to set it off, the time it needs to burn (a split second explosion or slowly releasing power), etc.
This would take Algodoo to a whole new level, with the possibility to create realistic engines and guns and stuff. It would be much more of a simulation, since pretty much everything in the real world depends on chemical reactions to work.

Also, you should check out Powder Game. I know it's pretty different, but perhaps you can draw some inspiration from it.

Yeah I used to play around with Powder Game until I found Algodoo. I'd Really like for this to be implemented.

Support :)

Been suggested. Air pressure is probably being worked on. Combustion will never happen. Algodoo is a physics simulator, not a particle simulator.

Well, it would greatly expand Algodoo's horizons and attract much more people. The vast majority of real life engines uses combustibles to generate energy, and its implementation in Algodoo could perhaps even inspire real life, commercial engines, I'd dare say from everything I've seen this community create. Air pressure would also be nearly pointless without it, since it would work on principles very similar to the already existing water feature. And I'm not saying it should mimic Powder, I'm just saying it's a good example of how it would be interesting.

Physics engine. Seriously, you won't win this. It's been suggested about a hundred times (seriously) and it's been put down each time. Just drop it.

The users want it. Many people have gone far and worked a lot in scripted scenes that aim to simulate combustion, and with even a lot of effort they're really unrealistic. But they still do it. I believe the Algodoo devs care for their players, and even if they didn't they'd want to expand the player base because that means more profit for them. So I do believe there is still hope, yes.

He is right, if air pressure is to be impleented, combustion would not be that far of a strech at all.
I think what you are thinking of is burning materials, Chronos, and I don't hink that will happen, but a steady realese of airpressure from a object(or something like that) would be able to simulate the effects of it, that is what i think he is saying.

Ah, yeah, I just misunderstood. I guess combustion might be implemented, but the problem is releasing it. Fire and explosions are probably not gonna be implemented, so it can be difficult to release the pressure.

But yeah, I still support it, I guess.

Fyi Algodoo is an educational tool.
Its primary consumer is schools.
So "Algodoo devs" shouldn't give a shit about the players (I.E Us) that fact that they do is an added bonus.

Great, engineering schools would also use it, to demonstrate how a real engine works. And yes, I mean air pressure release from an object, preferably with a timer or something that makes the object disappear after its "burn time" has gone off.

Now your just delusional.
You are "seeing what you want to see" just so you can get what you want.

The world doesn't work like that, if it did for me, every Monday would be now called Free Parking day and ice-cream vans would out number every other sort of transport.

Air would be a great implimetation. Planes and stuff could be made. Combustion will never be impimented as it requires the burning of a object. Air should be impimented and then we can use that to simulate combustion. We would have to make our own effects like flames but the air expanding would allow an explsin to be simulated.

I don't mean actual flames and stuff, but pressure releasers.

I'm just suggesting what I, and I believe other people, would like to see in Algodoo.

They have both already been suggested. But anyway, I support. I especially want Air Pressure, but this could cause performance loss.
