V8 ENGINE

Postby Vytas » Mon Apr 26, 2010 4:51 pm

Hey, I uploaded my engine to algobox and at first it seemed too weak, so I made it an awfull lot stronger, but now most of the reliability is gone. Can someone have a look at it and try to fix it.

I'm building a car with this enigne
oh, and i will edit it a little, so it's more stable, and a bit smaller for the realism (i always want 1:1 scale when making cars)

this might take one day, but one week at max (friday will be last day i will be able to work on it)

Okay, but do you realize that this engine doesnt give any power when it passes 4m/s. The balls just spawn out of the cylinders, and I dont have a way to fix that.

I thought if I could atleast get it stable, then it would be a nice thing to look at or something. But building a supercar reaching 100m/s will never happen with this engine.

The problem is the engine is moving 4m/s forward but the circles are spawning at 0 m/s forward.
My solution
1. Attach k-probe to engine k-probe

download

2. change vel code to
Code: Select all

vel := (scene.my.k1vel - [0, 2]);

Here is where it is up to you to problem solve. Your going to wanna watch what happens frame by frame so pause it and press the Pause/Break Key you will move ahead one step. This allows you to analyze what is happening as fast or as slow as you like. Try to see what is happening and report back when you can :)

Im thinking of just leaving the spawn engine as it is. Im planning to rebuild this v8 engine into a bounce engine. Bounce engines seem to be more reliable and can give just as much power as spawn engines do.

If u like I could check out the spawn engine a little bit more to really see what is going on.

I found a problem with the engine that makes it less reliable, its very easy actually. One part of the exhaust pipes collides with the piston with collision group A. So if you click on a part of the exhaust, no matter what part its grouped. Then make it so that it has no collideSet.
