Hot Space Action....Sort of

Postby JoeOh » Sun Apr 18, 2010 8:44 am

I've been playing around with the centripetal force effect that will probably be utilized in future space station designs. Here's a simple version of what that may look like and it's neat to see it in action. All objects like squares, circles and irregular shapes do eventually get pulled to the "floor" of the station, water on the other hand wants to be pooled into a corner. Maybe this is a glitch with the program (I'm using the free version of Phun (v5.28) but I doubt it. I guess in the future if someone wants to take a bath they'll have to do it in the corner.

The "station" is about 100 meters in diameter. The motor is going at about 3 RPM with +INF motor strength. I even have a nested object (a rectangle in a rectangle) to show the force carries within another structure such as particulate matter in the kidneys that can be flushed instead of them building up inside to form kidney stones.

I attached the scene as a zipped file to this post. Enjoy-

Good Demonstration of Inertia. If you want the formula to calculate the G-force the centrifuge prodruces:-

g = (R*((pi*RPM)/30)^2)/9.80665

g = 9.80665m/s^2

R = radius in meters

RPM = revolution per minute

Yours produces about 1g±0.2
