Hold on a second... You can't possibly have really created a gas operated weapon without any gases! There is very little difference between gas and recoil operated weapons. They work on the same basic principles.

In a recoil operated weapon, some of the energy of the round is used to move the slide. The round is fired, pushing the bullet out the barrel and the slide back, which ejects the shell, chambers another round, and resets the firing pin.

In a gas operated weapon, some of the expanding gases are diverted to unlock the slide to start the process of rejecting and reloading. This gives the bullet time to clear the barrel before anything happens. Once the bullet has about left the barrel, the gases unlock the slide, which moves back ejecting the shell, picking up another round, and resetting the firing pin. In essence, all the gas does is unlock the slide. Since there's no gas in Algodoo to accomplish this, how ever did you manage to create something that can be called gas operated without making a modified recoil operated weapon?

in algodoos traditional recoil operated guns there is an extremely heavy bullet so that the casing will push back on the slide

In my mechanism the bullet is standard weight and pushes against a block which using a gear mechanism pushes the slide back.

There are many advantages to using this system, including the fact that bullets no longer need to be extremely heavy, allow for a much stronger bolt spring, and a much faster muzzle velocity.

I haven't had a chance to look into them very much... been working on a clock (ssshhh!)

Your method makes sense, and is more realistic. I like it!
