Invert Cut Tool Color

Postby Mr. Universe » Sun Jan 03, 2010 8:27 pm

The white line of the cut tool is impossible to use on a white object for precision. Instead the line could be the inverse of the colors beneath it. You would have the same problem with 50% grey but that color is used less than pure white.

I think it was, too...

Anyway, instead of inverting the colors, why not just change it to a color that clashes? So a white object would produce a black line, a blue object would produce a red line, a pure gray object would produce a yellow line...

The only issue with this would be the colour to use on a perfectly neutral grey object, though either white or black would work.

Edit: I see you already mention this. :problem: I should read the topic post more thoroughly.

I'm fully in support.

The inverse of red isn't blue, it's blueish-green. And pure gray doesn't have an inverse, so it's definitely not yellow. :| You either didn't really read my post, or you don't know what inverting colors is.

How exactly would a "color clashing" algorithm work?

It would be easier to just do the white/black/yellow change.

If color brightness < .6 then cut/draw/drag tool = black
If color brightness > .4 then cut/draw/drag tool = white
Else cut/draw/drag tool = yellow

I find yellow blends too well into a 100% neutral grey object. Bright red would probably work better, IMHO.

Its' a good little improvement to be made.

Instead of trying to read colours of objects beneath the line, evaluate and produce a different colour, wouldn't it be simpler to make an hatched black and white line ?? Or even A multicoloured hatched line!!:P

This Idea was to simple to be found before:P.

The line should be either black or white... at the moment phun does that with the sky color (try setting it to white) but not with object color.

That's because the sky color is only one color. With objects, it would have to read the object color of every object that it passes under and then invert every little segment.

If there was a way to change the layer blending of the line, so to speak, to negate, that would make it easier.

In this case, App.lineWidth = 1 is not allowed for cutter tool. However, this idea is my best for this problem.

Whenever i have to do something like that i just change the background to white.
then it is clearly visable on white.
and if i am done then i just put the background on a similar blue to the automatic
i kinda support, but it is not that important to me

and the black and white seems to be a good idea, unless you are being unreasonably perfect ;)

maybe instead of having is 2 pixels wide you could make it every other pixel a different color.
