detailed AND functional LTM 1200

Postby sheepborg » Sun Mar 28, 2010 5:05 pm

My favorite crane is the Liebherr LTM 1200 5-1. it has a 7 fold boom as well as a large fly jib.
as one could imagine it would be incredibly difficult to make that many telescopic sections
so i went to work and created this masterpeice:

Rating: rated 7.5
Filesize: 127.57 kB
Comments: 5
Ratings: 10
download

in my opinion this could be the best crane on phun to exist. (Minus string but that makes lag)

THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!
READ THE DESCRIPTION OR YOU WILL NOT ENJOY IT AS MUCH

just as important as rating :D

like it?
suggestions?
suggestions on what to make next?

The jib doesn't seem like it's strong enough. It's supposed to go on the very end of the telescoping part, yes? Well, it falls off—the "bolts" aren't strong enough. I made them temporarily 10,000kg/m^2 and then fixated the red rings together, and then it worked. Am I missing something?

Very nicely done, all it needs is the ability to actually pick things up :D

And instead of a cable, you can fake it with a rack and pinion, which is much stronger and less laggy. odds are, your cable will never need to be seen wrapping around anything, so it's all good!

one problem with lifting things is the weight though, not just lag
since the actuation and other things are done with springs... well you get the point

besides a seven-fold boom that functions is a feat in itself :D

Nobody said you couldn't make parts of it unreasonably light and others unreasonably heavy :P

UPDATE: i am going to follow this up with an LTM 1400 7.1
it will (maybe) have the luffing fly jib, which will make it much more difficult to make
(for those of you who arent familiar with cranes a luffing fly jib is one that is tilt-able via ropes)

anyways this will be coming eventually as well as 2 terex things which i wont tell yet
