Rotational Cloning

Postby StephenAlverez » Sun Mar 28, 2010 8:55 pm

Pretty simple idea. I think that when you hold control and rotate something it clones it. Let's say I have a box, but I want two in the same place, but at different angles. I could hold control and then rotate and there would be to boxes in the same place, but at different angles. A more realistic example is:

I'm making a wheel with a bunch of wheels on it for a density jet, but I want more than four, I want 16 wheels. But when I try to line up the wheels, they are off center. How could I fix this? Rotational cloning, the wheels would be cloned at a different angle but in the same spot.
I am Alpha and Omega, the beggining and the end.

Agreed. This is a good idea.

Great time saver in some situations
i come across this a lot when designing rims
(except for odd numbers)
even so you would, i would in this case, still have to make 2 spokes before this would work for me anyways

you might just as well copy it right where it is then rotate it by dragging with the right mouse button

Support -ish -kinda

^^ Post analysis: First time user who actually changed their avatar, knows how to use the bold command, and is not from the US.

And I still support this.

Also note that 60-80% of new users join by creating a thread. Most users don't have either a avatar of a signature until they are moderately settled in. And i have seen a bunch of new users with one post that barely has any relationship to the topic.
Me thinks something is going on.

in algodoo stuff is rotated around either
a) a common hinge that connects to something outside selection, only works if everything under selection is somehow connected to the hinge(springs dont count)
b) geometrical center of all selected objects, if the above solution is not available

stuff is cloned by holding ctrl and dragging BUT it doesent really matter if they actually move so if ur working on grid and move mouse by 1 pixel they clone on the spot

so i dont rly get ur problem, just for example - make 2 circles, one left, other right. select both, hold ctrl, lclick down, release ctrl, move mouse 1px in any direction, release, rotate, select all circles, repeat

PS! "density jet" type engines work best with minimal amount of element that you can have in relation to lift torque provided by actual geoms which is 99.9% times 4
