"American Mode"

Postby Sonic » Thu Mar 18, 2010 1:43 am

How about, for those of us who live in a country that doesn't use the metric system, there's an "American Mode" so all the measurments are in the American system so we actually understand the information we're looking at.

Why? You really can't compare it in relation to real objects, being a simulation. Plus, if something is going 1000km/h, you know that's freaking fast.

But I support anyway.

Pointless to do conversions for all the measurements. Easy to do, but tedious and shit.

And WHY? Metric is so much better...

You can't understand the uber-simple metric system? WHAT.

Metric terms are what's commonly used in physics anyways.

I've gotten used to m/s,
I simply remember
1 m/s is 3.5 kph (Walking pace)
30 m/s is roughly 100kph
45 m/s is roughly 100mph
340 m/s is Mach 1 (speed of sound)
300,000,000 m/s is roughly the speed of light

I understand the basics of the metric system, just not the scale. If someone told me it was a kilometer away, I don't know how far that is. If they said a mile, I'd know what they were talking about.

1Km = Very far.

1 mile = Very far.

See how simple things are when you put them into perspective (quite literally)?

Metric measurements is designed to be easily converted everything is to the power of 10.
There are 10 Millimeters (mm) in a Centimeter (cm),
There are 100 Centimeters (cm) in a meter (m)
There are 1000 Meters (m) in a kilometer (km)

It also works converting against different sorts of measurements
1 litre of water weighs 1 kg
1m^3 (One meter cubed) = 1000 litres

As Americans may find Metric system weird You're the odd ones out

Thus "American mode" is not only extremely arrogant but really, really stupid as well.

I'm aware of that, Mystery. However, I have no way to visualize it. If it's going 50 km/h how fast is that compared to 50 mph

But since the country with the 3rd largest population (along with two smaller ones) doesn't use it, how about cutting us some slack.

US Population: 307,006,550
World population: 6,692,030,277
20% of world population.

Your right, the needs of the few are more important the needs of the many.

Hell, most Australian's have had to learn imperial measurements just to make sense of an outdated system that is blasted at us in movie and in TV shows.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Metric_system_adoption_map.svg countries that've officially adopted the metric system. And it's pretty easy 3 feet = about 1m :P take a big step with your leg and you should be somewere about the length of a metre.

Use more drugs, that'll teach you the metric system

He's trying to say all Americas are stupid, ignorant, lazy dumbasses, because we don't use the metric system or know what A.M. and P.M. mean, even though I do, and I use the metric system a lot.

I find it funny how a simple suggestion has turned into a huge debate about America.
BTW No matter what you say, I still think America is awesome and the greatest country on Earth.
