Inertia Multiplier in Algodoo 1.6.3
There is a neat new thing in the new Algodoo umm... update beta thing. The developers have been kind enough to put a value in for "InertiaMultiplier" in the script box for objects.
What does this mean? It means that you can increase an object's inertia without increasing it's mass.
Earlier in the day I made an absolute "gyroscope" by setting the inertiaMultiplier to +inf. There you have it, an object that will not rotate, but is as light or heavy as you need it to be.
Other problems like springs and hinges being dependent on the mass of the objects they're attached too can be solved with the inertiaMultiplier too. No longer will the first part of my sequenced guns be an incredibly heavy switch :p
Or whatever.

Yeah I also recognized this cool new feature and played with some values. But I find colorHSVA cool, too

What is colorHSVA?

I thought it was just Hue, Saturation, Value, and Alpha. What's so great about colors

Re: Inertia Multiplier in Algodoo 1.6.3
It's basically the same as the normal color value. You get all kinds of colors. But not by mixing red, blue, green and transparency together but by mixing a hue value (0° - 360°), a saturation value (0 - 1), some sort of "lightness" (0 - 1) and transparency together.
HSV gives you more control for colors for scripting reasons. btw. in the appearance menu of geometries you set colors with HSV. You don't have to put the colors together from red, green and blue there. You have a bar for hue, one for saturation and one for value ( which is something like "relative lightness")
@paradigm
Well it's not that important but if i need something to change its color i can do that a bit more easy. I know there are color functions in algodoo but anyway it's cool

YAY!!! I wish I knew this earlier! I'm going to go play around with it right now!

You can also make the equivalent of a inf power motor with this by adding rotational velocity to an object with +inf inertia.

Interesting.
InertiaMultiplier exists to settle the inertia glitch, btw. =)
About strange value in moment of inertia

Just to prevent any confusion; this only affects an object's rotational inertia.

Re: Inertia Multiplier in Algodoo 1.6.3
another thing is that inertia multiplier at +inf makes a stabilizer so you dont need the raunit or lucid stabilizers anymore

Re: Inertia Multiplier in Algodoo 1.6.3
Yeah but the bad thing is that you can't spin it just a little bit. It will stay in position no matter what happens. Maybe it's useful for some things but for me personally it's way better if a stabilizer only damps the rotation and don't completely prevent any rotational motion.

Then just use a very high inertiaMultiplier value. There are a lot of numbers between 1 and +inf

Re: Inertia Multiplier in Algodoo 1.6.3
Yeah but that's also a bit different from the lucid stabilizer. It damps any rotation. Inertia is a bit different. It prevents the object from getting rotation but once there is rotation it also prevents the object from stopping the rotation. But I don't want to say that inertiamultiplier is useless. It's pretty cool^^

Re: Inertia Multiplier in Algodoo 1.6.3
Oh, I get what you're saying. What if you had a circle with +inf for inertiaMultiplier and then you hinged a box to it and put a +inf brake on the hinge?

Re: Inertia Multiplier in Algodoo 1.6.3
Interesting idea. But with a +inf hinge it's not working. I just tested it. But a hinge with a finite torque does the job very well. I tried it with a 5Nm brake and it really damps the movement. It's different from "normal" stabilizers but it's interesting.

I just watched the collaborative creation of an entirely new awesome thing in Algodoo!
I'm so excited
but yeah, this is really cool. Thank you devs!

I found a very odd thing with the InertiaMultiplier: If you put a negative number in there, but a very large negative number (something like -.0000000001) then it seems to have very odd properties. It seems it only collides with moving items!
I am Alpha and Omega, the beggining and the end.

No, it's a really large negative number. It's large in negative, small in positive.

It's negative 10 to the power of negative 9, which is both very large and very small

wait... WHAT? I believe it's very small as it is 0.0000000001 below zero.

It's opposites. The smaller a number becomes in positives, the larger it becomes in negatives.

This is why I hate math class. They either make something so complicated you can't understand it, or they make something so simple you don't know why you bother to learn it.

It has nothing to do with math. It's just Combot and company not knowing the difference between small and large.
