super chain
i made this chain and it withstood over 100,000 kg/m2
1. make a four-toothed gear
2.add an extra hinge on one side
3.select "use as chain"

Re: super chain
It isn't that shape in particular, just that chains are awesome in Algodoo. Improved cable algorithm.
Made some cool stuff a long time ago

I was using phun, but posted it here because algadoo pun edition forums don't have a tut section

Re: super chain
Another reason this works so well is because for each segment of the chain, you have 6 hinges linking it to the segments on each side.

Re: super chain
wait, it works on all chains...
i tried it on a different pc and it worked horribly...
perhaps its just a glitch from using an algodoo scene on phun

Re: super chain
well, then for you phun users, here is how to make a non-leaking chain. algodoo chains dont leak very much ata ll, so here is how for phunners to mak chains not leak
this is the layout for te chain. one big "b" box in the middle with two csg holes. the "b" balls that fill the holes are connected to the "a" connectors. note, the letters in quotes are the collision groups
- Code: Select all
__________.--------------------.__________
| _ _ |
a | (b) b (b) | a
__________| |__________
'--------------------'

is laggy. why not make a chain that overlaps itself?

Re: super chain
well, it may be laggy, but it will not strech. it may break if you make it too small and put too much strain on it.
making an over-lapping hinge is a bit difficult on phun because there is no grid like you algodoo yousers have. it is quite easy to make a mistake, and becaause of compressible fluids, it is more prone to leak.

Re: super chain
My way of making a chain:
1. Make a brush stroke the width of two circles (with aid of grid if using algodoo)
2. Treating the brush stroke as two connected circles, place a hinge in the center of the left circle.
3. Clone the brush stroke and hinge using control, place so that the hinge is on the center of the right circle.
4. Continue cloning until chain is at required length.
This will almost never leak

Why is it that there are so many bumps recently?

I'd like to apoligize for that. Your chain is working perfectly alright. People have bad days. Sorry again and it's a great chain

Re: super chain
You need to have two objects with two hinges. One of the hinges has to join the two objects, the other has to be attached to the background. After making it, select those four things and there should be the option somewhere in the menu.

Re: super chain
It's important that 2 hinges of the selection are connected to the background, the hinges which are going to connect units of the chain.

NOOB ALERT!
Metagami... or anyone else... That chain he created is what I need... just like a real roller chain.
I tried making it, but I'm too noobish... Can anyone give a brief tut? (using latest Algodoo)
NOTE: I need to connect sprockets/gears with this, simulate real life roller chain and sprockets.
