Laser custom variables fail upon saving/loading

Postby Frank » Wed Sep 02, 2009 10:13 pm

I made a really sweet scripted laser after three hours of tweaking, then saved it, and went to double-check everything before uploading, and found that my custom variable in the laser failed to save. When I created it again, none of the other scripts that use it recognized its existence. The laser is not supposed to fire until this custom variable is 0.33 less than sim.time, but the laser starts firing after about three seconds and the scripts are screwed up due failed recognition of the custom variable.

I was messing with it as I typed. Now I fixed it by re-entering the relevant scripts by means of copy/delete/paste.

Tried saving again and re-loading, works.
Played with it, went back to scene load, now the variable is gone. I didn't re-load it; just went back to when I loaded it. The laser never fires now. I tried re-entering the variable, still never fires.
Tried copy/delete/paste again on two of the scripts that use the variable and they worked. Tried slightly modifying the third and it didn't work. Screwed up, went back, now the scripts look like they were executed then disappeared. Variables that are supposed to alternate depending on the custom variable's relation to sim.time were locked in the position they should have been in at the time, and they did not change.

Said "Screw it" and re-loaded. Same story. Scripts worked, I went back, custom variable disappeared and the scripts didn't work.

Closed Algodoo and re-opened, variable was still gone in ONEXITSAVE. Naturally, the scripts failed.

Loaded a different scene and closed Algodoo then re-opened, then loaded the scene in question. Worked the first time, then I went back and it refused. I kept on pressing the activate key for longer than I had bothered to try in other attempts, and after about ten seconds of refusing to fire it started working perfectly. Went back and tried again, that time it took twelve seconds.

And now I'm done screwing around with this mess. I hope a lot of what I've reported was useful information.

Yes, this is very annoying. Everything saves for me except for any custom variables put into the collideset box for objects. So I believe it's more than just lasers.
