STOP! READ BEFORE REPORTING A BUG!!!

If you have problems installing or running Algodoo, have found a bug or need in-game help - this is it!

STOP! READ BEFORE REPORTING A BUG!!!

Postby Sonic » Tue Jan 12, 2010 8:19 pm

Ok, well I'm tired of people reporting all these bugs when almost all of these bugs can be fixed just by deleting your config file.
SO BEFORE YOU REPORT A BUG, DELETE YOUR CONFIG FILE, THEN REOPEN PHUN/ALGODOO. IF IT'S STILL NOT WORKING, THEN, AND ONLY THEN, REPORT THE BUG!!!
How to do: (for Windows only. Sorry)
Phun: Go to your Phun main directory. If you used the installer, it should be on your C drive, in the program files. If you used the zip, it's probably in My Documents. Once there delete the config file, then re-open Phun.
Algodoo: Simply go to My Documents, then to Algodoo, then delete the config file.
There. Let the flood of useless bug reports cease! :D

Oh, and Link, PLEASE STICKY THIS!!!
I do stuff and break things. You know how it is.

For mac the Phun config is in the same folder it came installed with. For mac Algodoo config.cfg is located in the folder it installed with and also located in /User/Library/Application Support/Algodoo

I have a few suggestions:
  • make it a bit more structured and arranged
  • try to write a bit less agressive/offensive
  • expand the tutorial on how to delete the config file (maybe images?)
This would increase the quality of this post a lot

Doesn't Algodoo have a "reset configuration" button?

Not very helpful if some dumb ass made a scene that makes your user interface invisible :|

Ok I'll try to work on a more detailed tutorial. Will you then plaese sticky it? Please? I'm really tired of all these easily fixed problems.

Delete config.cfg and it's fixed (it fixed it for me, at least).

Yeah, but deleting config.cfg is way more complicated than a simple "reset configuration" button. And normally people can use that button, but now, with the moronic idea of making the GUI invisible, they have to take extra steps.

Oooh chronos, tough guy!

For a normal person (parent, teacher, small child), finding the directory where config.cfg resides, is way too complicated to ask them to do.

My Documents\Algodoo

:o!!!

Really, it's not that hard to find Algodoo's. Phun's is slightly more complicated, but not much.

Explaining it to them is a hell of a lot less painful then sitting through yet another config problem, isn't it?

Sonic, you should add that scenes are saved in My Documents\Algodoo\scenes, not C:\Program Files\Algodoo\scenes.

This needs way more organization before it gets the right to be stickied.
