Hammer Throwing Contest [Dec/1/2009]

Postby Gameman » Tue Dec 01, 2009 10:55 pm

Stop hammer time!
Hammer throwing time to be exact! For this contest you must launch a heavy hammer with a machine of your creation.

Rules:
You must throw the hammer to the right, not left.
You may not attach any springs, fixates, or hinges to the hammer.
You may not Change the hammer in any way.
You may not use attraction.
You may use tracers on the hammer.
You may not use glitches.
You may not use thyme's, or scripting.
You may not set extreme slider values (Values over a sliders limit)
You may use stacked blocks (as long as the hammer is thrown)
You may not turn off the gravity
You may not turn off the air friction
You may not change the scene in any way other than your machine.
Water power is not allowed
Zero friction is not allowed. The minimum Friction is 0.100

Any loop holes that I may discover shall be debated and the submitted scene will most likely disqualified.

Note: Due to circumstances, the scene may be changed for actual judging. In order to properly test the scene.

Judging :
Points are awarded for the following:
Distance (80 points total) [upgraded the total]
Simplicity (10 points total): how little parts does the machine have?
hang time ( 10 points total): How long does it stay in the air?
Design ( 20 points total): The style of the device.
Is it colored? (5 points total): Are the colors not defaulted?

Due date:
The Contest will end
Dec/30/2009 (eastern standard time)
Judging for the contest ends on:
Jan/1/2010

A note: This contest seems simple, but has added complexity due to the rules. If the contest is too simple then the contest may be: (1. shutdown (2. modified to fit the rules

The scene may be subject to change (an edit), the hammer will not.

That scene violates the rules.
(1.)Uses a glitch (2.) The hammer was not thrown.

the hammer was not thrown - that's true.
but that scene didn't use glitches - he just set that box's restitution to a very high number(use advanced mode?)...

so, i think the rules should include restitution/motor using limits...

that was what you where expecting as an entry?

That was within all the rules, so yes that was an excellent example.
but, you could do the same with a bunch of blocks... (I still use the beta so the slider maxes may be different)

objects inside eachother can not be considered as a glitch, because it happends enough times in phun/algodoo without you noticing... (try turning sim.frequency to 10 (in the console, to open, press f11), and always run phun/algodoo in 0.10x speed)

I didn't cheat, but I didn't necessarily play fair, either.

Tell me if I DID cheat in any way, and I will fix it.

EDIT: WHAT THE HECK!?!? IT WORKS SO MUCH BETTER ON MY COMPUTER! I just downloaded it and it sucks!

EDIT AGAIN: OK, I made it different... The hammer throwing part still sucks, but I used friction to make it go a long ways... And I did not make the hammer have 0 friction, I gave the ground 0 friction.

ok i have my entry up and i dont think it cheats in any way
sliders are within constraints
no connections to the hammer
all that good stuff
the scaled down 1.5 ish meter hammer(the distance was anoyingly large in normal scale) can fly beetween 1800 and 2800 meters :D
altough do best of three becaus the reliability of mine is pretty bad

OK, made a new one. I turned the gravity off. Nothing in the rules against that!

OK, made a new one, and I am SURE I win this time, I turned the gravity off. Nothing in the rules against that!

(Sorry if I sound like I'm bragging, I'm just claiming my victory.)

yours goes 3700 meters
( no gravity is obviously cheating :problem: :wtf: )
mine's 6700! :D

It's not cheating, there was absolutely no rules against it as far as I know.

It's called loop holes. They're not allowed

Wait, I thought a loop hole was a way to get around the rules without breaking them, and it isn't nesecarily a loop hole because he never mentioned it at all in the rules. Not only that, he never said "loop holes are not allowed", so I never broke the rules once.

Well loop holes are now not allowed, and neither is no gravity or no air friction. The rules have been updated. Scenes that are not changed to fit within these rules will be changed by me and will lose 5 points on the final judging.
