Tank game techdemo

Postby Kilinich » Sun Nov 08, 2009 3:00 pm

Well, it's not a game yet, it's a demo of some cool looking stuff.

First and most exciting is dynamic light. First time used in my Sphinx scene, now improved to move and turn around.

Second is aerial view tank track phunlet, which has good potential for this kind of game.

And (as usual) another k-probe/pointer implementation - mouse controlled turret.

maybe making the turret to turn slower... that kind of acceleration would break the turret irl...

I have lag too, but my algodoo tends to lag at some situations without any cause. Example - 2k water particles doesn't lag, but spawning over 100 of them drops fps to 2-3 :?

I have same GForce 8600GT, Athlon 64 X2 4600+, 2Gb RAM, WinXP. No lag.
I've check on work computer (GForce 7200LE, DualCore 2.6Ghz, 2Gb, WinXp). No Lag.
I think key word is WinXP  and I remember someone fix lags in Vista with compatibility tricks...

@davidz40: collisions slow down Algodoo/Phun dramatically more than simply having lots of objects. You can create a couple thousand circles, but if none of them are touching it won't lag. Make a circle-bomb with that many of them overlapped and your computer will probably crash. So spawning tons of water at once, using one spawner, creates lag. When I've needed a deluge of water I've used a array of lasers that strike the same surface like 1 particle-width apart. Inelegant, but not laggy.
