Make me a high performance Turing Machine, then we'll talk.

Of course I'm not the best. That's why I'm asking you for help.
Also, turing machine: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=turing+machine

How do you want to make computer if you say that turing machine is too complicated :roll:

Turing machines are technically extremely simple computers. I don't know how you can make anything more advanced without the ability to make a simple Turing machine.

I'd suggest to read on wiki about programming language BrainF*ck - it's possibly the simplest implementation of turing machine - only 8 commands.

Ive always thought what the point of making a computer in Phun is, when anything that can be implemented in a so called "computer" HAS to be able to be implemented in Thyme, and thus can be. Why not program in Thyme instead of some cryptic Assembly language that adds numbers and pushes around variables?

For the sake of creating a fully functional computer from scratch, I guess. I'm not fond of the idea of using Thyme to make simpler stuff, though. At least, extensive usage of Thyme.

Ive got one for you: Thyme.
Again, anything that any processor will be able to do can be done in Thyme. It doesn't matter how complex or sophisticated the processor is, Thyme is always the limit because everything always has to be coded in Thyme.

IF you need a diagram of how a computer works, here you go
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... iagram.svg

Also, will this use lasers to speed up processing power or will it be "mechanical"?

I will work a clock generator for now and then try and work on the CPU or one of the bridges.

P.S Are we gonna work in Binary, Decimal or Hexadecimal?

You cant just rush into this, we need to decide on an instruction set for the CPU. If you want it as real as possible you can use a RISC instruction set such as the ARM set, or if you want to "cheat" and make it easier to use but unrealistic you can omit some of the more technical instructions such as those dealing with memory stacks and use a simplified set. I designed an instruction set for an Algodoo CPU a while ago (its the aforementioned unrealistic style), but never implemented it. If you want, I can upload it for you.

I know we shouldn't rush and that's why the most basic things should be best. However the only basic thing is the clock but what it is going to count in, base2 base10 or base16 because the CPU will have to be able read this and then convert it into "User Readable Information".

check out the ICs i made on phunb... algobox...
the 162 (has socket B6)
the 1166 (has socket B16)

that are the scenes...
please find a good use for them...

In javascript, this is how to convert from decimal to binary

Code: Select all
function Decimal_to_binary(x)
{
answer=new Object();
x2=x;
log2=0;
while(x2>=2){
   x2=x2/2;
   log2=log2+1;
}

for(l2=log2; l2>=0; l2--){
   power=Math.pow(2,l2);
   if (x>=power) {
      answer[l2]="1";
      x=x-power;
   }
   else answer[l2]="0";
}
for (i=log2; i>=0; i--){
   document.forms[0].elements[1].value+=(answer[i]);

}
}

Hope this is tome help
