Linux start help

Postby jossh » Tue May 04, 2010 7:38 pm

I know this is the Algodoo fourms but the Phun forums are locked so I just posted this here:

I downloaded both the 64bit Linux and 32bit Linux archives, extracted them, and tried to run the Pun file just by double clicking them and selecting Run. Nothing happened. Then I double clicked and selected run in terminal. The terminal flashed on-screen, then disappeared. I can't even tell if it outputs anything.

Any Ideas?

I love these kind of simulators but can never find one that works so I currently just use incredibots but long for something more.

you want to run it in the terminal to find the missing libraries. Navigate to the phun folder, if your phun file is in you desktop start a terminal and type
Code: Select all
cd Desktop/Phun

now to execute phun
Code: Select all
./phun

and it should tell you whats missing. you can you your package manager to install them(e.g. synaptic)

got it... I think

Umm.. the same problem is still here I am going to check for more missing dependencies.

EDIT the same dependancy is missing same code appears in the terminal.
Code: Select all
There are missing dependencies.
Please make sure that all the required libraries are installed.
  Missing:
   libpng.so.3 => not found

do I need libpng.so.3 instead of libpng3 ?

Are you sure you installed it? libpng.so.3 is the file it installs. did you use synaptic or the command... have you used synaptic before?

By the way, there is Phun in the PlayDeb repository, so you can get it from there.

Have you installed the play deb repository?

BTW which repositories do you have enabled(look in system -> administration -> software sources) if I were you I would enable all of them.

I just had the same problem but on linux mint(based on ubuntu). The solution is to make a link from /lib/libpng12.so.0 to /lib/libpng.so.3 and /usr/lib/libpng.so.3
