Start it from the terminal (just type "algodoo" without quotes if you installed it from .deb) and say an error it will say.

It says that it can't cd into the /opt/Algodoo directory, and if I run it from that folder, it crashes my system, even if I extract the tar inside the home dir.

Does this mean that there is no /opt/Algodoo folder?
I can suggest 3 ways: 1) Reinstall the package 2) Try to extract tar into the /opt/ folder 2) Check up if there are all libs Algodoo need

Update, i removed welcome.phz and it worked, but if I do anything complicated, or try to load something it crashes the OS again, i'm going to try recording the resource usage, is this a known problem and will it be fixed.

What version of the kernel do you have? Have you tried to start Algodoo on an older one? Is seems to be a kernel problem (IMHO of course, I'm not good in these things).

it doesn't like 3d/2d acceleration on intel graphic xorg drivers it seems, i tested it on a vm without 2d/3d accel, and it works great, i'm just going to disable 2d/3d accel since i never use it for gaming or anything and see if that is really the problem.

Oh, those Intel cards, there are always problems with them...
But it would be great, if you will solve this problem just disabling 2D/3D acceleration, it is easy solution.
