Algodoo 1.9 New Features Discovered
Hey, Dare just linked me to the algoblog since i was like Thrusters?
And i click on the image and found this;
As you can see i shows the new tools for algodoo 2.0, which are;
Thrusters, and rod or piston tool and an erase tool.
Pretty exciting i suppose.
Lets here your veiws on the new tools!

* 1.9.0 actually. I am really looking forward to these thrusters, a new age in aviation for Algodoo will be born, and I will be one of the first to implement. Seriously cannot wait!
Erase tool is very curious. I want to know about that.

Lol, shows how active i've been. But yes I have some good ideas to use all the new tools. Cyclic helicopters and some secret stuff.
Edit; the erase tool will probably be the same as the "draw a sausage tool" but will erase instead?

The brush tool already does that. :/

Yeh, that's why I am curious about this new "eraser" tool.

It almost looks like a 3D object? Mabye it has something to the collide sets?

Pistons? Thrusters?
Algoryx, I am disappoint.
Also, I think that rod/piston tool is actually a magic wand tool (which is used for selecting).

Re: Algodoo 1.9 New Features Discovered
I'm glad they're finally adding thrusters. We've only been asking for them since before I joined the forums. And yeah I was going to mention that the erase tool looked like a 3D box tool, and Chronos is probably right. I doubt it's a piston tool, simply because they'd probably use a different icon for it. And I already have 14 uses thought up for thrusters. Most of them are probably useless, but still.

Why would we need another tool for selecting? We only have the cut tool, sketch tool, box tool, polygon tool, and even the move tool (you can select multiple objects with the move tool), not to mention the select alike button. I think it is another connecting tool. If it were a selecting tool, it would be next to the move tool or something like that.
Hmmm... I dunno if I'm happy about this picture, or annoyed...
I guess none of the things that I wanted updated are visible in the tools/toolbar.

Re: Algodoo 1.9 New Features Discovered
Ok I think I have the most plausible answer for the "rod" tool (though not for that 3D box tool ):
I think the rod tool is essentially going to be a rectangle with a hinge on either end. But instead of having 3 objects to make up one rod, they have simplified it into one entire object and turned it into a tool for us.
I think it's a great idea, I will use it for a lot of things. Stops me from having to make a rectangle, then put hinges on, the group it.

Re: Algodoo 1.9 New Features Discovered
I hope it works a bit like the chain tool, as in, it still makes the "rod" with geometries and hinges.

Can't you just do that normally? I think it will just be a solid spring or rod.

Re: Algodoo 1.9 New Features Discovered
What I'm trying to say is, I'd rather have a physical rod instead of a texture(like a spring, hinge etc.). However, if it's way better than a "physical" one, I'm all for it.

Ok i see where your coming from, it would be better than a physical rod because with the physical rod the hinges can stretch and glitch a solid rod will be very predicable.

Re: Algodoo 1.9 New Features Discovered
I support the idea of a solid rod. Saves a lot of time, as in CPU time and what's measured by my watch. No more nasty setting the size of a brush, changing collision layers, and making hinges. And probably less lag, too. And maybe, MAYBE, they could also function as pistons.
But yeah, no one would ever use the thruster thing. It looks terrible and RaRockets will do the same exact thing, aside from using two collision layers. And I really hope that they will add a piston tool. There are many linkages out there that use sliders that I shy away from because sliders in present versions of Algodoo are easily breakable.

Matthias Wandel is epic, in my humble opinion.

Are you completely retarded?
Clearly the sprite of the thruster is used for beta testing, so they will change it in the final version.
And what could possibly be better than something you can stick on an object and generate thrust? Besides RaRockets still use resources. That is like when people tried to create Phun-friendly lasers. It's stupid even bothering if they are giving us a new more resourceful tool.

Re: Algodoo 1.9 New Features Discovered
I don't really want thrusters for the same reason I don't want pistons. Remember how people where saying that "phun was so much better when there wasnt scripting and people had to do things mechanically"? Thrusters really aren't that special. Giving people more control over geom-controller would do the same exact thing. I think that if the developers keep spoon-feeding us new tools, then there will be even more spam & similar on the algobox because people can just slap a thruster on a box and call it a rocket.
But if they seriously keep the current looks of the thruster, I will hack my algodoo and give thrusters better textures.
But this is off topic, and it would be a shame to lock this thread. So Tatt, please don't lock it.

How was that off topic? I guess you do have a point there btw.
I also really hope they fix the tracers. In 1.8.5 they look like they've been raped.

That's hardly "hacking" and hardly off topic.

I'm sure they will change the texture for thrusters, even if they don't it would be really easy to make one yourself, theres a tut about it somewhere that a cba finding.

I already made a skin that uses the Phun tracers, and when I get 1.9.0, I will change the thruster appearance to that of RaRockets.
Look Here! It's my Tracerfix skin and my tutorial for making shins!
And I agree that they should give Thyme control over geom controllers.
