What's the licencing principle?

Postby Passiday » Sun Feb 13, 2011 7:16 pm

Hello,

Thanks for finally making the Ubuntu 10.10 version!

I'd like to buy Algodoo for my kids. However, before making the purchase, I'd like to clarify some questions regarding the licensing.

The thing is, the kids might use PC either at home, or at country house. That means, to different PCs. I am not sure how the activation of Algodoo exactly happens - do I get a unique key I must enter in the demo version? If so, will the same key be accepted also on the other PC? Or maybe it is considered that I should buy two licenses for such 2-PC setup?

you will need to buy two licenses to follow the proper route.
but it is possible to use the same license on more than one install at once but you will be breaking the Terms and Conditions.

From what I've heard, it'll automatically unregister on the first computer if you do that, but it's never done that as far as I know. You can do this without breaking the ToS if you uninstall it on the first computer before you install it on the second, though.

You will need 2 licenses for everything to be legal.

Or, do what I do and install Algodoo directly to a thumb drive. This keeps Algodoo in one place, accessible from multiple computers, but only one at a time.

Keep in mind that you will want to copy My Documents >> Algodoo onto the thumb drive and then copy it back onto the computer (the other one) in order to access scenes from both computers.

but your licence key will be installed on 2 computer or more.

Isn't that also against the TOC?

That's correct. The license key will be on both registries. The only legal way is to uninstall it on the first computer before putting it on the second.
