Algodoo Open Beta 1.9.7 Released!

Postby Emanuel » Thu Jun 23, 2011 8:30 pm

Hello again!

Today we release the next beta of Algodoo, version 1.9.7, and this time the Mac users are not left out!
It is open for anyone until September 1st, visit the following link for more information:

http://www.algodoo.com/wiki/Algodoo_beta

No license is required to run the beta, so feel free to spread the word!
Please use the wiki-link instead of the direct link to the file in case we find any major bug and have to release a new version.

Some effort has been put on making the first time run of Algodoo a bit more informative, try resetting the config and give us feedback with the new feedback button inside Algodoo (it will probably be removed in the final release, or at least made smaller). The feedback button can also be use to report bugs or comment on the design.

The GUI should be smaller now and a lot of icons are reworked.
Oh, and try out some of the new skins, they are all made for the new GUI.

A competition will be added later (when the rules are worked out) to find out which scenes and scenelets should be bundled with the new release of Algodoo. A change log will also be added later. Stay tuned!

We hope you also feel the new version is getting a more polished look and feel, and that it helps you in the workflow of building more amazing scenes!

Edit:

well everything is great with the new one , gui and so on , i must say it looks great.
but i can't get happy with the hinge behaviour ...
i got a post in the bug forum where i explained it (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4237) and i think the there attached example sene shows why.
the new solver is great for any force but not when it influences a hinge.
in short it lets the hinges act like in auto break mode ,what is realistic , but makes every simple build axle senseless.
i dont want you to change everything , but could you do something this ways (like an "pure axle " and "realistic axle" mode or so?) before you will release the next full version of algodoo ?

Found three bugs so far:

1. If you place the tool menu in the upper right corner, right below the file etc. menu, then restore down the Algodoo window, then maximize the Algodoo window, it moves the tool window up so it covers the file menu.

2. Algodoo often starts up in the incorrect resolution.

3. Borders seem to be completely gone.

I also get this one too...
Unmaximizing and remaximising fixes it...

Ok...

The game still isn't saving my settings. It does not remember the window size I like playing at, and my graphics are made of fail, so any time I use water I have to re-uncheck water meta-surface rendering.

And hinges are really broken now. Many of my cars do not function now. I had been on a bit of a hiatus from Algodoo, but I was thinking of coming back to it for a while. Not until this hinge mess is cleared up, though, because it ruins the game for me.

I like new beta. Nice works!
By the way, is there a changelog?
And when do you plan to release next beta?

the visualisation button on the right hand side of the screen sometimes malfunctions. The force options that it brings up often wobble around like crazy. Trying to click on the wobbling buttons just drags the window around.

Much better than 1.9.5 and .6 =)
I've see only 2 major compatibility problem
- disabled lasers because of alpha channel
- cables act like new chain and ruin all mechanics because of that

This may have been the case since all the betas, but this is the first time I'm getting to use it because I'm on a Mac—can there be an option to get the old, heavily-damped, drag tool behavior back? Most of the time I'm using the drag tool it's to restrain a runaway object, and having it behave like a spring makes it useless for that. It says it behaves like a hinge, but it doesn't—it bounces and overshoots, like a spring.

Tracers, GUI is made out of rectangles. How would I go around to fix this?

Could you please attach a screenshot of the GUI and does your Logfile.txt give any warning or error?
