Simulation Control Panel

i have v2.1.0 b8, and there is a new button on the Simulation Control at the bottom of the screen. It's a box shape, with 4 smaller boxes inside it. I'd like to know what it does, and how i can change it to do different things, as i have already seen on other scenes i've downloaded.
