Yeah, we see you. I find it quite disturbing that you already have over 500 posts. Really...

The only reason there not here is because there "Patrolling" the old forums.. waiting... just waiting for the moment.. when link unfreezes to make an announcement.. then they strike.. then invade "our" forums.... that fatefull day... will be the end of humanity... and algoryx..

yeah and i dont think that there will be much change in the next time
but i think many ppl especially the guests at the phun forums are been attracted by youtube
they see this physiks game and looking around and its called phun so they google it and google says phunland
i think it wouldnt be a bad idea to make algodoo more attractive at phunland maybe with a big banner like
" Forum closed, moved to algodoo.com go there for ultimate Fun "
or like " Dear user phun has risen to Algodoo visit Algodoo.com for info, forum and demo "

maybe that would help a little

We have fairly detailed statistics from the Phunland forums and even though there were rather many registered members, there were only about 150 that were really active, if looking at activity over a few weeks.
This should be compared with an estimate of somewhere between 300.000 and 600.000 active users of the software. Also, many or even most of the phunbox/algobox contributors are not active in the forums.

We still have thousands of downloads of the Algodoo demo and of Phun per day, but very, very few of these register in the forums. Even very few of those that purchase a license register in the forums. I will place a link to the forums on the download pages and in the receipt page/email, and see if we can get some more forum activity from that. Other suggestions welcome!

We will indeed also run contests, even very soon, but it is puzzling that we reach only a tiny fraction of our users with a contest if we run it in the forums. I suppose we could ask downloaders to (optionally) register with email, but we really don't like that... Our newsletter is probably the best way for communicating with users. We do have many thousand subscribers. However, we don't want to use the newsletter mailing list more than a few times per year, and mainly for new releases. Perhaps we will use it for announcing a contest after all.
Your input is welcome!

What about a banner ad for algobox, That would help spread the word of the official contest.

I'm afraid that if there comes so many people into this forum, admins cannot continue to manage the topics of this forum. :/

There are already 111 topics 683 posts in Help / Bug reports section of Algodoo forum (2009/09/01-2009/10/08). i.e. more than 17 posts a day.

On the other hand, 1033 topics 6297 posts in Help / Bug reports section at Phun forum (2008/03/07-2009/09/02). It is 12 posts a day.

I think Algodoo/Phun forum was the first forum I've actively participated in, before it, I found little need to go to any forums, if you don't use forums a lot, I used to find that I could usually figure out any problems I had by myself, most of the time, you can find the information you are looking for just by using the search feature, which doesn't usually require registration, and if it did, usually I would register, use it, then go back to using whatever I was using it for. Forums, no matter how friendly, aren't a place most go when they need help, there's quite a chance that a user of the program you know, knows the answer to your problem, and if they don't, then there's less known users. Most people would probably follow this procedure roughly:
    Choice:
  1. Someone nearby.
  2. A teacher (depending on the setting).
  3. A friend.
  4. A friend of a friend.
  5. A forum.
Though it may not be the most efficient, it's probably easier to ask someone nearby: "Err, how do you do this?", than make a post explaining the situation they are in, the things they have tried, what version of Algodoo/Phun they are using, what O/S they are using and a whole range of other information they may think that is relevant, also, there is the speed of it, asking someone nearby is much quicker than posting a question then waiting one hour for a reply (even 10 minutes may be longer than asking someone nearby), chat applications are a fast way to ask experts questions, but frequently, chat applications are blocked in schools.

In conclusion, I think the people are still there, but a lot of people only join to post one single thread, I also think that a lot of the problems would be fixed using Google Wave (it was a wonderful idea  ). Though also, there is also the consideration that when you get a game, your first instinct usually isn't to go check out it's forums.

A forum not having as many users as those who've downloaded the program is not uncommon, nor is it the fault of the company (usually at least).

Remember too, the Algodoo forums are only 1 month and 1 week old.

I'm not here all that much now, my laptop died, and i dont have internet in the new flat i moved into. i intend to live there so little that i just see it as a waste of money to get the internet atm, so i wont be around much anymore.

I could put algodoo on my pen drive and use it on the university machines now instead maybe. Wait and see i suppose but i should be doing work here, got enough mechanical crap to do with my final year project as it is

Really? I don't think I'd ever ask a friend who uses Algodoo for help, let alone a teacher. The internet is my life, I may as well use it to my best advantage.
