Phun Closed registration lines?+How the Phun Computer works!

Postby thomastanck » Sat Jan 09, 2010 6:12 am

Wow tight fit for the subject.

Put two threads in one to make sure mods don't ban me for.. Ahem.. spamming.

If you want to reply to this thread, follow this example:
Code: Select all
To Phun closing forum registration lines:

NOOOO!!!

OR

To the Phun Computer 'guide':

wow / that was obvious!

anyway, THE PHUN CLOSED ITS REGISTRATION LINES FOR FORUM!!! ARRGHHH!

and now the 'guide' to the phun computer.

first of all, download the phun computer scene here: http://www.algodoo.com/algobox/details.php?id=19954

2. Play around with it! do some calculations and it works wonderfully(until you put 10 divided by 3)!

3. now, how it works! <-- at least part of it for now...

Make sure you have ADVANCED MODE on.
Delete the redundant light blue semitransparent cover. it serves NO PURPOSE.

first of all, this is how components send 'signals' to each other. at the top of the keyboard, there is the "04" circle. this is the 'wire' between the keyboard and the computer.

first, the keybord senses that a key is being pressed.

it changes the text value of the keyboard cover(if you pressed 't' it would change it to 't') and changes it's collision type from '1' to '2', causing it to collide with the "04" circle.

if you see the onCollide script for the "04" circle, which is incredibly long, you would see that it would first set it's own text value to the text value of the cover(passing the signal on),

sets the text value of the cover to nothing, does a bunch of stuff that you dont have to know, changes the collision type of the keyboard cover back to '1', sets it's own collision type so it collides with the south-bridge box, and ends.

now the south-bridge box is colliding with the "04" circle and i think this is enough to start and serve as a example to how signals are transmitted.

take a close look at the "01" circle. notice it changes color everytime you input the operation like "divide" and it would change to light blue.
here is the table for the color change for the operations.

Add -----> bright red
Minus --> pink
Times --> dark blue
Divide --> blue

now take a look at the ALU box. not the word, but the box behind it. open up the Script Menu! ooh aah... okay enough of admiring.

take a look at the Texture Matrix. now start to make a calculation, by typing a number and pressing ENTER... notice that the texture matrix's SECOND value turns MAGICALLY (not really, its just thyme) into the number you typed and is "saved"! :o...

now you would type in your operation, like 'add', and then the circle changes color.

now as you type in your third number and press enter, the signal travels through the south-bridge, down over to "01", then something interesting happens at the ALU box.

the box senses that "01" is of a different color, it's texture matrix has a value that was stored, and now the circle also has a value!

now 3 different values now meet at ONE box, and now the math can be done.

if you put in 4, divide and 2 into the computer, "01" would be blue in color, the second value of texture matrix is 4, and "01" ALSO has a value, ALU takes blue and transfroms it ---> DIVIDE.

ALU takes 4, uses its power of thyme to divide it by 2, which is the last value you typed.

in other words, it has done 4 divided by 2. it finds that the answer is 2, adds it to its own text before changing the collision types to carry the message further.

now the the message is transmitted and it is displayed on the screen! :o............. <-- drool smiley i actually drooled when i figured out the simplicity/complexity of the computer!

with simple methods of transmitting values like changing collision type, it is arranged in such a beautiful and complex way, to give you 4 divided by 2 equals 2. Simply. Amazing.

Coming up would be RAM STORAGE. Keep your eyes peeled, and remember to reply to WHY THE PHUN FORUM CLOSED REGISTRATION LINES!?!?!?!?

Thank you for reading.

It closed registration because this forum was open and this forum has a Phun section.

And I really don't care about the computer stuff.

EDIT: Oh, damn. 1000th post.

Don't worry. Posting is off as well, making registering redundant.

Did we need the long spiel about how a well known scene works? I mean, I know you're trying to help people, but if someone really wants to know, it's better to let them find out themselves. It's a good thyme learning experience as well. :D
