trouble with textures
I had created large textures (of maps, .png files around 16mb at 100dpi) in Phun that were fine and dandy. Now when I open these in either Phun or Algodoo I see only stripes of blue noise. Is there now a limit to how large a texture .png file can be? Or more generally, is there a tutorial on how to set up textures? Thanks.

Re: trouble with textures
hm... could you stick the pictures somewhere? i'd like to try this to confirm it. Sounds strange. It could just be too large of a picture. Try cutting the shape in half or into smaller pieces. It might work.

I hate to ask: how do I include an image in a post?

Go to tinypic.com, upload the picture, and stick the url for the picture in IMG tags.

Re: trouble with textures
Will this work:

The three disks that look noisy used to be stars, a moon, and the earth. And that orange chair used to be, um, a chair, but is now just orange noise.

Re: trouble with textures
Select the object with the texture, go to its appearance menu, and click on auto-position texture. What happens? Would you mind uploading the scene?

I tried autoposition. Nothing.
Here it is: http://www.finleymuse.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/wave%20machine.phz
It's for an iShowU animation sequence. Please don't laugh.

Re: trouble with textures
18MB? :\
EDIT: I just saw your scene and it's fine. Maybe try updating your graphics drivers?
Also, you are making the scene file size heavier by the use of your textures. We probably won't even notice if you resized the textures. 18MB is waaay over the top for a scene like that :\

Hi, RicH. Thanks so much for looking. Yeah, 18Mb. Prett-y big. I'm zooming way into the scene, running iShowU to capture, and lower res textures just don't give me the detail. But I'll try to reduce the size of my image files.
I'm running Algodoo on a Macbook (with OS 10.5.8): how do I update graphics drivers? Because these scenes used to work just fine, perhaps its an update that ruined everything?

Perhaps. I'm not familiar with Mac though.

Have you run software update recently? Perhaps there might be a new update.

Re: trouble with textures
Yes, I have updated my OS. I have the newest, flashiest, brightest OS. But I could try a clean install. Blarg!
This stuff worked in August, September, and early October. And now, when I need it, of course, this problem. I've been hunting around in apple forums for information on png files that exhibit this behavior in software other than Phun or Algodoo, but no luck so far. There's another machine in the house that runs Tiger and not Leopard. So, I'll try that.
RicH and standardtoaster, are you on PC's?

RicH uses windows and I use a mac.
I'm one of the few mac users here. :/
EDIT: What graphics card do you have? Nvidia? Find the name of it and then search google if there is an update for it.

Thanks for the question, standardtoaster. In the System Profiler under "Graphics/Displays" I see this:

VRAM (Total): 144 MB
Vendor: Intel (0x8086)
Device ID: 0x2a02
Revision ID: 0x0003
Displays:
Color LCD:

Depth: 32-Bit Color
Core Image: Hardware Accelerated
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Supported
Built-In: Yes
Display Connector:
Status: No Display Connected
Does that help?

Re: trouble with textures
News flash. I just ran the latest Mac OS security update (which only today showed up?), and, voila, the .png textures are suddenly there. Weird. And I'm relieved. Thanks to RicH and standardtoaster for helping me through this.

You're welcome. I was pretty sure that something would need to be updated.
