Welcome to the Helicopter Collab.

You don't have to be great at making helicopters, you just have to have an interest!

This Collab isn't just about helicopters themselves, we are looking for working mechanical parts, real engines, dummy engines that look good, flight simulators, arcade helicopters, weapons systems, pretty much anything to do with helicopters, post it here.

If we get some really great stuff, we can put it all together and make the ultimate flying machine.

Current Staff List:
No staff just yet. Let's see what kind of people we can get. Suggest what you would like to work on! I put you here in staff list of it is good.

I shall also join this collab.

I've got an idea for an improved S-Unit, so I can attach that to an improves S-Thruster (which I also have an idea for) (or I could use a modified version of Beezlebub II for added realism), and also attach the heart of the new S-Unit concept (a Lucid device) for rotation, and attach davidz40's Storm Bolter...

It'll hopefully be ready this weekend. I can't wait.

Nor can I. Is this heli of your own design?

Mostly- I may have seen a RaCopter with a similar design, the lift was/will be a multi-layered collaboration which YOU set off (I think), the gun is entirely thanks to davidz40, and the stabilizer will be a combination of RaRa, whoever invented the Lucid device, and myself. But I haven't started on it yet.

I can make some gattling lasers. Is that enough to join the collab for weapon systems?
I do stuff and break things. You know how it is.

I can work on engines, weapons, and textures. I've never actually made a realistic helicopter, so this will be interesting. Well done, Dare; your collab has merit.

What helicopter will we be working on?

I say make a helicopter best suited to whatever technology you put on it!

Bigger challenge: Make the whole thing controlled by a single motorized ragdoll like Kilinich did here.

That actually is feasible... *designing helicopter in head* You know, we might be able to do that!

Sure that's a pretty good idea actually. But realistic helicopter engines (the ones I use) have scripting to control cyclic and collective ... player control would not be possible with it.

P.S. I was thinking Mi-24 Hind :P

Looks like you guys don't want to wait for thrusters... :D

Anyway, I have many helicopters and engine concepts so you can keep it in mind then building something new...

Dream of Algodoo as game development engine...

Well you've pretty much covered it all there. We're not trying to make new flight engines, we are just here to teach each other and make some nice helicopters. I use your engines all the time, they are simply amazing. I learnt how to tune every aspect of them now, so I can change collective rate, cyclic reaction speed and other things. I just have to say thanks. :)

Haha, i had the same idea for the chopper i'm working on right now, its very nearly finished just needs some propulsion.

And a helicopter suggestion; The x-2 Sikorsky high speed helicopter. Lots of stuff to work on here.
http://www.sikorsky.com/vgn-ext-templating-SIK/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=40c96eb78fa78110VgnVCM1000001382000aRCRD&vgnextchannel=162f45d57ef68110VgnVCM1000001382000aRCRD&vgnextfmt=default

edit here it is. Tried to show some inner workings of heli and tried to mechanically simulate cyclic & collictive controls, ie this heli will fly inverted once finished.

Are we going for realism here, or can I start making some outlandish weapons?

Well... the pilot doesn't actually have to control it, he just needs to look like
he's controlling it.

I guess we're going for realism... but who says outlandish weapons are unrealistic?

Realism? REALISM? REALISM?? REALISM?!?!?!?!
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!

Okay wow. That's what I call a mega-spaz.

But yeah. I say throw realism out the window. Photon torpedoes all the way! :P

I think that we should make a helicopter that actually works before we get add the superawesomecollisionbasedsandwichcannon.

I have an idea for a manual throttle mechanism (controlled by lever in ragdoll's hand), but my implementation is terrible... I'll upload it and see if anyone can improve on it.
