Pinball Table (Currently Unnamed): V0.3

Made this in my spare time. Started on it about two weeks ago. Nothing majorly impressive (yet).

A simple pinball table (or pinball machine, for you new-age 80's hipsters). Keeps track of time and score. I plan on adding other features, such as bonus rounds, other things to hit, safe guards, and possibly even achievements (though that'll take some major work).

Point values (as of version 0.3):
Tip of flippers: 5 points
Red bumpers: 10 points
Dropping the ball: -25 points

Controls (as of version 0.3):
Z or left arrow: Left flipper
X or right arrow: Right flipper
Down arrow (hold): Pull plunger
R (hold): Reset time and score

Please remember that this is just a beta, and isn't fully complete, though it's not really a WIP. There are some glitches, but nothing too major. The biggest one I could find is, when the ball goes back to the plunger, it might collide with the box used to take away points multiple times, resulting in more than 25 points lost.

Changelog:
0.1 (unreleased): First draft. Added the main outline and the basic mechanics.
0.2 (unreleased): Added scorekeeping, timers, bumpers, and a points-per-second tracker.
0.3 (current): Removed points-per-second tracker due to lag (I plan on adding it again later). Added some textures.

Good work so far, one major glitch with a 1 minute fix. You can shoot back down the laucher chute. It actually happens quite often. Achivements would be fun.

That's actually not a glitch, it's really easy to do in real pinball tables. I'm gonna leave that, since it doesn't really affect the score and it isn't something that doesn't happen in real life. Thanks for the comments, though achievements are pretty far away.

Hmm... I say score BIG for launching the ball back down the chute... If (and only if) you place the top end of the chute in such a way as to prevent the ball from sliding back in if you just slide it along the top...

Imagine this. You have a flight of stairs. If you are at the top and roll a ball at the stairs, it goes down, right?
And if you try to do the same thing at the bottom, the ball comes right back at you.

You need the ball to "drop off" a small ledge, so when it comes out the top of the chute it flies freely a little ways before hitting the ceiling. And, if you reverse its velocity at any point, it simply hits this ledge and stays out of the chute.

Oh wow... I am getting really unclear now...

Recently, I discovered something a lot of you probably already knew: Minecraft is awesome.
Due to this, I may not be as active as usual for a while.

No, I kinda know what you'll mean. When my new graphics card arrives, I'll get to work on it, since this card gets me about 0.1 FPS.

No, in normal tables they have a wall. I have never seen one where you can go back to the launcher, but its your choice.

Well I'll make it so you can go back, but not to the plunger. It'll hit a wall and slide down to the flipper.

The pinball game seems pretty good, but somehow my time on it ended up at -647 and counting up.

Pics or it didn't happen. And did pressing R fix it?

Yes, pressing R fixed it, and it worked from then on.

Huh, no clue why that happened. Well, if pressing R fixed it, then it's not too serious, I guess. :P

This is the first pinball table I have ever seen that:

  • Gives you infinite balls.
  • Each time you lose a ball, you lose a certain amount of points.
  • The plunger only has one setting. You should make it release/fire when you release the button.
  • You can shoot back down the plunger chute.
  • Umm....

Still, not bad, but I did encounter TC42's timer glitch. R did fix it.

And this thing is going to need a LOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTA work before it makes my hard drive.

Well I plan to have a set number of balls soon, and when I do, you'll no longer lose points. That was just there so you had something bad happen when you lost.
  • The plunger only has one setting. You should make it release/fire when you release the button.
    I actually just finished that.
  • You can shoot back down the plunger chute.
    Still working on that, though.

Yeah, I'm gonna make it automatically reset when you load the scene.

And this thing is going to need a LOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTALOTA work before it makes my hard drive.
