This is a little vehicle that I made which uses a collision engine and a gearbox to traverse a course. The entire machine is powered by the engine, there are no motors involved.

Ahh yes, and his name is Herbert.

Give it a try and tell me what you think! ;)

In a comment, I wrote:Very interesting. Good work!

Also note that I will soon come out with an 8-speed transmission that is completely mechanical and uses all 7 collision layers. I will post the link soon.

I will also put it in a car with some suspension, powered by my Beezlebub II 4-cyl engine. It will only have two motor hinges, both are used as servos.

I take it that "No motors involved" you mean "It uses motors, but only as servos"? Or are your servos in fact powered by the engine, but activated by braking the hinges?

I can't wait to see what's next!

Recently, I discovered something a lot of you probably already knew: Minecraft is awesome.
Due to this, I may not be as active as usual for a while.

I don't have any more ideas of what to make next. I've quite enjoyed using gears though, they're very satisfying and mechanical. But other than that, I don't have any inspiration at all.

I actually realized that I had four motors- two servos and two triggers for the servos.

The servos are actually the only things with gears at all- the transmission actually uses some piston-based insanity which can actually run quite a bit faster than gears- even C-gears- could. Not that I would ever be able to get something to go that fast.

Maybe you could try to make a self-building tower that can un-build itself by cramming the pieces back into the machine?
Or put a transmission on a turtle-bot?
Or take Winston's dad and split him in half, so the top part is separate from the bottom part- so I can re-attach them with my docking couplers?
Or use the technology in my density engine to give Winston flight?

The latest reincarnation of my density engine is here:

It's upside-down.
Come to think of it, I should really make a couple improvements. Like make it collision-based.

I'm going through a bit of a collision engine craze at the moment  so I think:
-Collision engine powered automatic cannon
-Collision engine powered self building tower
-Collision engine powered production line

Just tried the Rock Crawler, accidentally made it fly far, far away. :D
If I were going to use thrusters (which I think I might) I would use a clone of your Beezlebub ones, not the rock crawler ones.

If you want thrusters, I would use the density engine (agile, one engine can go fifteen ways at once :wtf: ) or one of the S-Thrusters (good for one direction of thrust).

And for collision engines, I suggest you use Beezlebub II or a slight modification on it that I used on my Beezlebub II 4-cyl.
TC42's version (which I will use whenever possible) is good when you only want one piston per cylinder (radial engines). It uses only one collision layer, but multiple pistons in the same cylinder will collide with each other.
My version is better for when you need multiple pistons in the same cylinder, like in the engine I made of it. The problem is, it uses two collision layers and you must edit the code to change them.

For the self building tower, I reccomend using a negative damping spring engine. They scale well, are very, very powerful, and are perfectly balanced. Unlike a collision engine, which vibrates. A lot.

Or just use boring old motors.

A collision engine doesn't vibrate THAT much, and in a way I actually like the vibration. It makes it seem more... solid, mechanical, and so on.

And plus, I'm not very good with change :?

For a particularly precarious application like the self-building tower, one would think that you don't really want the engine to vibrate.

And what do you mean when you say that you're not very good with change?

And are you ever going to split Winston's dad in half? There would be a collapsible box, basically, on the top half, and the wheels and piston-feet gizmo on the bottom half. Is that so hard?

I'll put some measures in place to stop it shaking so much.

I have no interest in Winston's Dad anymore. That's a gone project.

I think that my newest collision engine is pretty close to as close as you can possibly get to a collision engine that doesn't vibrate. And I suppose I will have to take a closer look into Winston's Dad again...

Physically impossible, yes, but who cares?
