Full Scale Mechanical Le Rhone 9C Rotary Engine
Big project I have been working on.
When I say big, I mean I have built and rebuilt this engine about 5 times, reverse engineered about 20 different engines on Algobox, and wasted many hours trying to build mechanical parts that are reliable and work well.
Finally she is done!
9 separate working cylinders, spawn powered. 767 objects + textures. Hope you have a good PC.
Real size, real weight. It would be virtually impossible to get real specs on this engine though, seeing as the sim.frequency would have to be changed to compensate for the massively high speeds of this engine.
Once again this is a mechanical copy of the real thing. But some adjustments obviously to include valves. I made my own mechanism for that one.
Start the sim, and if the engine doesn't start straight away press S to give it a kick start.
I might make a V2 soon, I don't know though.
Thanks for downloading.

Great, that's what I've waiting for (and even think to make, because your prev rotary engine was a crap)
It's just perfect for demo of that very odd engine design.
Suggestion for V2: you can make it as collision-type engine for best performance and output power

Dream of Algodoo as game development engine...

Well collision is good idea, but each cylinder hits the plug at different times, so somehow I would have to time collision changing for each separate cylinder.
A little complex don't you think? But collision engines I do love, it would be great.
Ideas please.

Actually, if I spawn a rectangle to fit the cylinder instead of a circle, it will give same performance as a collision engine but still be a spawn. Maybe that is a better idea?

Another great engine!
Hats off to you!
But why make a V2? Boxer motors are more entertaining than Vs... so make a boxer 6...!
Oh... hold on... now I get what you meant. I don't know if there's much room for improvement, other than the realistic specs which probably aren't possible to achieve without modifying sim.frequency.

Well actually I am completely rebuilding this one. I know there is room for improvement, I am using collision tech instead of spawning which will give more desirable performance and power. So basically completely new engine, same name though. Stay tuned.

I win.
Looks terrible, but works great.
Matthias Wandel is epic, in my humble opinion.

You don't get the point. Dare building replica of real WWI rare engine. Not just collision engine with 4 pistons...
Dream of Algodoo as game development engine...

What makes you think I am having a contest? Just so you know I think that engine can be easily beaten.
Roman and I had a little competition to build 1 cylinder collision and spawn engine, and both of ours were capable of 20 rad/s. And that's only 1 cylinder. Think of what we can do with 4.
But trust me, V2 is going to have tonnes of power.

Re: Full Scale Mechanical Le Rhone 9C Rotary Engine
It seems that TC42 has put me into contest mode. And I could make my engine use 32 cylinders. With 8 sets of simultaneous ignitions per revolution, each set consisting of 8 separate ignitions. Beat that.
And I have found that a circle fixated to the end of a noncolliding rod works much better than a box hinged to the end of the rod. More reliable and probably less laggy.

Uugh both of you stop turning my thread into a competition. If you have nothing to contribute, please don't.
I don't care if you can make an engine with 128 cylinders that can power a city, just don't turn my thread into a competition.
