HTML Notation for Colours

Postby Dare » Thu Dec 16, 2010 2:39 pm

I think this is a good suggestion. Instead of having to fine tune to get the colours you want, you can have the option of inputting a HTML notation. That is, a code for the colour.

This would also save time if you want to give two different objects the same colour.

This would simply be a box in the "Appearance" menu for a polygon, and you could input the codes into this.

If you don't understand what HTML notation for colour is, it is basically the code for a colour. Examples:

Red = ff0000
Green = 00bf00
Blue = 0000ff

I really want this implemented, please give me your support.

I'm good with the current color system. I'm not so familliar with the HTML-Color system. Perhaps you can explain how it works? :thumbup:

Well it's very simple. This website gives you some good information: http://www.w3schools.com/Html/html_colors.asp

It's pretty much the coding for a colour. I don't know how it works, but I do understand it how to use it and it is good for fine-tuning a shade of a colour that you like.

Also, if it is put into Algodoo, it would allow you to copy and paste the HTML code for a colour of a shape and put it into another, thus making both shapes exactly the same colour.

P.S. I am not suggesting to get rid of the current colour system, I am saying to add a small text box that generates the HTML code for a colour you create. That way you have the code for the colour and you can use that code do duplicate that colour and put it into other shapes.

P.P.S. Sorry if I am repeating myself, I am just trying to simplify it a bit. :thumbup:

It's used mainly in HTML.
This is a silly idea, considering it is basically the same thing Algodoo already has just in hexadecimal form.
I could not start on reasons against this, perhaps there are already two color mode in the script menu? It is a developers tool, it would be easier if Html color were in decimal form (Like Algodoo already is). This is also like complaining your TV is too easy to use and you prefer the old method of standing up walking over to your TV and fiddling with the knobs.

As Mystery stated, this is called hexadecimal (hex). I support this, though, as I prefer it to RGB/HSV, since it's quicker to type in and easier to remember.

Yeh, I want hex form in the appearance box, as well as the regular colour script we have now.

Ok, think of it this way:

Would you rather remember the exact position of the sliders/four floats, or would you rather remember eight symbols, 0-9+A-F? With hex, it's way easier to remember the full color (such as #FFB837FF), unlike having to memorize [0.2256326, 1, 0.88273721, 0.222778].

Also, I'm including alpha in the hex code, hence the extra two digits.

Exactly. Besides, if hex is implemented on top of the current colour system, Mystery won't complain about the colour system, and I get my suggestion put into practice. Everybody wins.

I support Dare's suggestion.
Inkscape has good example.

There, that's exactly what I am thinking of. Just a little box where we can input hex colour codes, nothing to complex. Thank you Tatt!
