Algodoo read-only mode after demo period

Algodoo read-only mode after demo period

Postby Kilinich » Fri Mar 05, 2010 9:16 pm

I ask for that before and RaRaMalum suggest it too (but I can't find where ;) so I post this suggestion again)

It will be nice if algodoo switch to read-only mode after demo period (no controls except camera pan/zoom) instead of -not working at all. That gives many users ability to play scenes from algobox, especially games.
Algodoo player is what many phun users want.
Dream of Algodoo as game development engine...

Definitely, I tryed to show some scenes to one of the schools physics teachers, but was unable to show many of them because the full version was at home, and i couldn't bring it easily.

cool, so now we can't drag, cut, or do things like that.

IMO it would be best to remove saving capabilities(and this includes copy+pasting, _onexitsave, and autosave)

Don't support Schools would totally abuse this having only X amount of registered Algodoo for teachers and read only for kids.

No they won't. With this, you can't move, cut, drag, or do any of that after the demo expires. Only watch.

I support this suggestion strongly.

The substitute suggestion.
Let new Phun Edition have the ability to read Algodoo scene with read only mode.
I prefer this idea because Phun users always use Phun (not Algodoo). So they open phz-files with Phun when download phz-file from Algobox.

I hope my explanation is OK.

Obviously I support this.
I prefere tatt61880's version of it, let phun support algodoo scenes as a read only mode.

Something like this in paid Algodoo would be great too. Some sort of lock (password?) that puts algodoo into player mode. Would be useful for keep the class idiot from creating random crap  .

I basically agree with this. What we need to be able to do is build our scenes into a distributable play only executable so that people can just download them and run the scene, without having to install Algodoo or be limited by the trial.

However, to have a distributable play only mode (which would open up the distribution so much it's silly) you will have to have custom Thyme scripted GUI elements. basically, be able at attach variables to slider, checkboxes, and the like so that users can easily manipulate elements without changing any code.

Now, with this there is the possibility of creating basically an entirely new GUI in Thyme that does everything the paid GUI does and then allow you to create and use scenes without buying the full version. This means that there will have to be some limitation on what you can do with the Thyme custom GUI commands. However, if they are too restrictive it will make the Thyme GUI practically useless.

The best way is integrating Algodoo and Phun(Algodoo Phun Edition) into one exe-file.

There are merits below.

* The new user doesn't have to download two files.
* The file system also be integrated. (i.e. Now we have two "scenes" folders for Phun and for Algodoo. It will become one "scenes" folder.)
* Phun users get updates more frequently than ever.
-> This will become a big good topic for Phun users.
-> We will get more Phun users.
* The numbers of Algodoo translators will increase. (By current system, Phun translator doesn't have to translate Algodoo.)
-> We will get more Algodoo users.
* The compatibility between Phun (Phun-mode) and Algodoo will become more good. ;)

----
Edit:

Algodoo read-only mode will tell the fascination of Algodoo to Phun-users.
And then some people who are fascinated to Algodoo will pay money for it.

I completely agree with Tatt. Being able to download the Algodoo demo, and when it expires, it turns into Phun. But when you purchase the license, it becomes Algodoo, and in the menu, there's a button to switch between Phun and Algodoo.

Total support. But I still like my idea of being able to build a super light executable that anyone can download which contains a single scene and only allows play mode, that way you could eventually even integrate it as a web plugin. It would be awesome.

I had an idea for a suggestion for exporting scenes as executable which would have such GUI: [play/pause], [undo], [redo], [close] and a [try algodoo] link. So I found this topic in search.

Support!
