Slow laser cut

Postby Rhett97 » Tue Sep 01, 2009 11:02 pm

Okay maybe like you could have a slider than when you dragged it to the right to +inf it would Cut Straight through instantly...
MAYBE have it so that if you drag it to the LEFT it would take a second longer to cut through... or if you dragged it all the way to the left it would just leave a tiny tiny cut or wouldnt damage HIGH density objects

I was thinking of suggesting the same type of thing.
Slider for 'Laser cutting intensity' as well as 'cutter' checkbox.
0 intensity = doesn't cut, despite being a cutter laser
0.1 intensity = cuts through very slowly, as if it were actually evaporating/burning the object.
1 intensity = cuts through slowly.
100 intensity = cuts through quickly, but still is a gradual cut from one end to the other.
+inf intensity = cuts through instantly, the way cutter lasers do now.
This way you could have a laser that actually took some time to cut through objects.
Theoretically with a slow-cutting laser you'd be able to just cut away part of the exposed surface of an object (IE, use it to shave off part of a circle) by dragging the object at a stable speed through the laser.

this isnt how laser cutters work. i dont even like the fact that you can change the speed of light :|

Perhaps, if this feature was added, people might have the ability to ignore it? Already parts of algodoo are unrealistic, so it would not 'ruin' the game.

Just a thought.

Oh and BTW, i think this is a great idea :D.

I think it is a good Idea, and it isn't unrealistic, lasers don't go through things instantly, it takes them a certain amount of time. The only problem is that doing this is very cpu intensive(try esasing an object when the sceneis running with the brush tool)

Both solutions are unrealistic, because for it to really be realistic it should be a side effect of thermodynamics + objects melting, and not a feature of it's own that has nothing to do with physics and that was included only to satisfy people's entertainment needs.

um.. The point is to make it as realistic as possible, that is going a little overboard, and i don't think we can expect algodoo to integrate oecake or something to simulate melting particals, algodoo is geomety based, not partical.

Whether or not it's realistic, it's not simple and maybe even unnecessary.

You're a noob for making a lot of meaningless stupid nearly off-topic posts. I admit this is off-topic, but I felt you really should know. Please think before you press the "Submit" button. Think whether or not your post will somehow contribute to the thread. We're on an official forum owned by a company, so you really should be more mature.

Hmm... I understood the suggestions section to be for any suggestions, not just suggestions that were simple and realistic. Perhaps I was wrong.

Yes, it's for any suggestion, but it's not likely that your suggestion will be taken into consideration if it's not simple and useful (and realistic).

I like this idea. It IS more realistic than laser cutters are now and it would be very, very cool.

You all take this way too seriously.

Just remember, Its in the name. PHUN

Aren't we suppose to act more professional now that we're on a support forum hosted by a company?

The fact that it's a company means everyone has to be more arrogant and self-righteous? I wouldn't have thought that would be necessary...

Perhaps now that it is hosted by a company means we should all be a little less pedantic ;)

Well the forum it self is for support of Algodoo... which is WHY we need the phunland forums to stay open

Phun is a game, not a scientific engine. It is ultra unrealistic. Sure it does SIMULATE some major parts of physics, but not actual physics. I am sick of having to continually post mean feeling comments, but you are all acting stupid, which I know many of you aren't.

This is a forum, forums have people who act stupid.
Algodoo is a game, not an accurate engine, so this is a VERY reasonable suggestion.
Since when are lasers that have visual path realistic? Or those objects that can instantly kill others?(Killers) or using scripting to alter how other objects collide iwth another? LOOSEN UP IT IS A GAME!!!

Alright, where's my elephant button?

Also, is it necessary that you need to emphasis that we are apparently stupid?

I don't understand why someone would even think about suggesting anything whenever everyone comes storming in telling them how impractical, unneeded, unnecessary, or how their suggestion is stupid and should never be added into Algodoo. Who cares if this suggestion forum is owned by a company? Wasn't Algoryx a company when they were still developing Phun? Just because now everyone has to make suggestions for Algodoo instead of Phun doesn't mean that 80% of them are impractical. And besides, ALGORYX is the one who should be deciding these things, not you.

Anyways, I think this would be useful. It wouldn't cause nearly as much lag as it does now, I don't think.
