Ice sculpture contest [editedx2]

Postby izacque » Thu Oct 01, 2009 1:38 am

Objective: Make a machine that can cut a cool ice sculpture

Rules:
All machines must be autonomous
your starting block must be one piece.

Scoring:
50 points - machine
>20/20 precision: how precise are your cuts. can the machine reliably cut a straight line? Does the sculpture come out the same every time?
>10/10 Aesthetics: Can't have an ugly brute creating priceless sculptures now can we?
>15/15 Skill/Effort: I want you to actually work for this.
>5/5 Overall: Simply how "cool" I think it is. I'll try to be generous with this since it is really subjective.
50 points - Sculpture
>15/15 Aesthetics: Of course the sculpture has to be pretty!
>10/10 Complexity: I don't wanna see you make a triangle out of a square.
>20/20 Creativity: NOT randomness, but try to surprise me.
>5/5 Overall: Again, a generous helping of points based on wow factor
Deductions:
none to speak of at the moment...
Bonuses:
+40 for making a thymeless scene!
+20 for a starting block that is not fixated/glued/hinged to anything

So a perfect score for a thymeless scene with a non-fixated starting block would be 160 points; normal perfect score is 100 points

AND EXPLOITING A LOOPHOLE IS -161 points!

Leaderboard will be HERE:
1st Place
2nd
3rd
...
Best machine
Best sculpture

Contest ends on Halloween midnight, or when there have been no new entries for a week.

i belive you should let us make a machine that cuts the ice in stead as this just isn't going to work without cheating :)

well, I did like the idea of phun for artistic purposes, but I completely agree. the contest wouln't be fair if I couldn't tell who cheated and who didn't. I believe my edited contest will be artistic and fair :D

WHOA!? WTF we should be able to cut something artistic without using ANY thyme!?
We will HAVE to use laser cutters that will HAVE to go on and off.. without thyme?

Edit : Oh right yes u can.. by using some kind of an blocker on the laser xD

It's more fun without thyme.

sorry, I thought there could be a clever way to thyme it, but apparently not. Contest edited (again). Your starting block can now be glued to the background.

I have successfully made a circle. Does that count as an ice sculpture? :P
