Ehm, I'm not english and I don't know what is a hardcore :D You mean that i can change the 200 kg box to get more points ?

I think he means that he will upload a much harder (hardcore) scene where the 200kg block on the trailer is replaced with a 1,000 kg block.

I think.

That's what I understud :) I'll replace the engine with a 21 pistons one then

Pistons actually sound good to me now. My cam-spawn thing didn't work... :problem:

And I've got an idea for a spawn engine with 96 pistons.

And how will you fit 96 pistons in the engine box with 7 collision layers ?

You'll see... if I ever actually get to do it. :problem:

I think we have to wait the new scene with the time counter fixed and the 1000 kg box by the way

I did fix the timer in my scene. It uses sim.time, and simply stops the sim when the big black box is hit.

PhunWars

This is meant for the hardcore entry
it lifts up the wagon so there is less friction

Yes but you just uploaded the tractor, where's the scene ?
Ps: engine doesn't work for me

I uploaded it as phunlet so it can be used in other scenes as well

engine is on but you have to press s to start it and c to put the clutch on d is only to stop the engine in case of finishing

I have decided to scrap the radial-piston-spawn thing and replace it with a different kind of spawn engine entirely. This one will be basically solid. It will be inspired by one of Raydeg's scenes that I used in my materialVelocity bug report. However, it will not use materialVelocity. It will just produce a torque.

And I will wait for the hardcore scene.

Wait, why can't we use collision engines?

I have no idea.

If we could, I would have done so long, long ago.

I would've borrowed TC42's Beezlebub II cylinder, modified it slightly, and would've pwnd you all with an attempt at a 576-piston radial, but it would've lagged too much, so I would've maybe just used 64 pistons.

Then again, maybe I would've just used the rotary c-engine I have laying around. With 48 "pistons."

It just seems so hard to get an appreciable amount of power out of a spring engine...

It also tends to flip over any vehicle I put it on. :D

Not having used it to power an actual car I'm not sure what "appreciable amount of power" really means—but I built a pretty darn powerful spring engine, a while back.

It's the rotary type, but it uses 0-length springs instead of negative-damping ones. Negative-damping springs actually push on the engine frame, and cause the flipping-over effect you describe. 0-length is a true glitch and produces power out of nowhere, without external torque. Engines of this type are also ridiculously stable.

I hacked together a tractor that made it all the way, but I ran into drivetrain-stability problems—the engine was happy enough to provide rather more power than I could figure out a way to transmit. I have a feeling I was doing something wrong...

Feel free to use the engine, though.

I also made that type of engine.

The problem I gave is it produces power at high speed, not low speed where I want it.

So I still haven't bothered to build this rotary spawn engine...

Ravenplucker is confused by how these work!

I will stick with negative spring damping for the moment. And I have a cunning plan to stop the flipping over. ;)

Someone Else: How do yours have such high RPM? It's not the number of circles, they all do... I couldn't quite figure out the magic values by starting from scratch.

And yes, rotary spring engines in general have very high RPM and low torque. That's why I geared mine down. Yours spin so fast I don't know how you'd do the gearing, though.

Ravenplucker: I don't know how they work either, they just do. As I said, AFAIK it's a true glitch, whereas negative damping is a sensible if nonphysical interpretation. They're very easy to build—if you hide collision layers A and B in my engine you can take it apart to see how it works.

Another idea for everyone—it's possible to build a rotary attraction engine with similar RPM characteristics as a rotary spring engine, but higher low-speed torque and a self-starting directional bias.

But under the rules of the contest, we can't build attraction engines either. ಠ_ಠ

Negative-length spring engines are nothing more than a very useful glitch that was not fixed with the new solver.

And I would've built an attraction engine if I could.
