I predict that Chronos will say something like this:
Fail contest is fail.

Anyway, I suggest that somebody should make a Candy Machine Contest, inspired by the Fail Fail McFacepalm Candy Machine Collab.

Make some rules, add some restrictions, make a scoring system...
You know, I might make that contest myself sometime.

My submission: Add some rules and scoring!

Anyway, what kind of ideas?
Car ideas?
Tank ideas?
Helicopter ideas?
Robot ideas?
Baseball ideas?
Make-me-a-sandwich ideas?
Cow-shaped-salt-and-pepper-shaker (not kidding) ideas?
Socialism ideas (just read Animal Farm)?
Inflateable-rubber-ducky-from-planet-X-that-doesn't-exist ideas?
Ideal ideas?
Easter-egg ideas?
Long-list-of ideas?

I predict that Chronos will say something along the lines of "This is a bad contest, and you should feel bad". If he does, just ignore him. 8-)

Not that I'm saying this is the most brilliant contest I have ever seen in the history of contests ever, it just needs some refinement. Such as a topic. And some rules. But no scoring because no idea is a bad idea.

Seriously, it doesn't follow any of the guidelines, and the contest itself is an incredibly shitty idea.

Think of it this way.
It's a poor contest to start off with, but you can help make it better by going exactly what TC42 did.
It will more likely than not improve.
I think.

TC42, what's the problem with scoring?

Got that Chronos? It's very likely that it will, in fact, improve!

I submit the Candy Machine Contest! :D

NOW it's not bad for a first-post contest.

For the record, this was the original contest:

Much better now.

IMO, this still isn't a good contest. It's pretty vague to say the least.

Not excellent, sure, but keep in mind that this is a first post contest.
It does, in fact, comply with most of the rules. The only one it leaves out so far as I can detect is the lack of an ending date. However, I would simply leave that out on my contests, just make the end whenever the topic appears to gave died and/or it seems that I won't get any more entries.

Pretty good for a first post contest, I would say. Not particularly bad for any contest, methinks.

And by "score", I meant the score for my entry.

I particularly don't care if it's a "first-post" contest. It still isn't good. Seriously, a best idea contest? I'd even go and say it sucks.

The goal is too subjective to be judged fairly and apparently scripting is a must for your "ideas".

You bring up some good points.

It's not really good or bad. Come to think of it, rating a contest like this is also pretty subjective.

If you compare it to good contests, you'll see this one's flaws. A direct goal is pretty important you know.

Are you trying to turn this one around?

I think it's OK, you think it's terrible, just live with it.
OK?

@Byung-Hoon: Ahh, thank you. Too bad it didn't break up the argument though... :(
@Rich: Well why not? If you don't have a good reason, just don't reply. I don't want to hear it.

I disagree with you so it isn't okay. I have all the rights to reply, and you have all the rights to ignore it. This is a public thread, my replies aren't solely meant for you. In fact, it's meant for Byung-Hoon. This is his contest you know. I'm saying this contest has a lot of room for improvement. This is barely even a contest. You're basically letting a guy 'rate' your 'ideas'. Hey, you know what, I think this is fun: http://www.algodoo.com/algobox/details.php?id=41233 Woop tee doo. And this one's pretty 'great' : http://www.algodoo.com/algobox/details/20966

What I'm saying is, and I've been saying this before, this contest is too vague. It. Is. Too. Broad. What's an idea exactly by his definition?

Have to agree with RicH. This contest isn't a contest as much as it is a waste of space. Even after editing it, this contest has slim to nil structure.

You barely have to even look through a half-decent contest to realise how stupid this is. I bet you didn't even bother look at this.

Top 3 ideas? I mean c'mon. This is just so stupid. I'm glad I didn't see this contest before you edited it. That must've been a nightmare.

Someone Else, I like you. you make great contributions to the forums. But I'm telling you now trying to defend this contest is hopeless and you may as well just let it die. And the first contest excuse? Not going to work. Take a look at my first contest. It wasn't exactly a great idea, but the structure was fantastic considering. I just don't think anyone could be bothered with it.

And so ends my rant about terrible and pointless contests. I'm having a bad day and if you haven't noticed I am not in the mood for shit.

And a small note: I am working on a massive Algodoo Dakar competition. The structure and refinement of this competition is beyond belief, I have been putting a fair amount of work into it. Different classes, leaderboards, prizes etc. Huge work in progress.

More proof that you shouldn't be allowed to start contests here as soon as you join.

I will grade Byung-Hoon's contest based on the only sticky topic in the Contest Forum.

Read This First wrote:STEP : 1 Basic Guidelines

Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

Has my contest been done before? I don't think so.
Use the search feature to check. (*note*Make sure to check the original phunland.com forum as well.)

Is my contest overly simple or overly complex? Overly simple... maybe. Probably.
Is it to make a fast car---Too simple Make atomic fusion?---Too Complex

Is my contest "stupid"? There seem to be widely varying opinions on this.
A contest to create the super fastest ultra car rocket... 'Nuff said.

STEP : 2 Other stuff...

Does my contest have a well established set of rules that are not overly restraining on the participants? Could be developed a bit better.
Just make sure it has good rules(And a solid and easily understood objective).

If my contest needs a base scene (scene that others build their entries on), is it included in my first post? None is necessary.
'Nuff Said...

Does my contest have an ending date? I think this is kinda pointless. I would say the optimal ending date would be whenever the topic dies or when there are probably not going to be any more entries.
Every contest should!

Do I tell everyone how I will judge their entries? Highly subjective, but yes.
Make sure to also determine how you will be judging entries also!

STEP : 3 Extra Tips and stuff

Make sure to judge your contest entries often and fairly! Can't really tell about this one yet. But so far (with my entry), this is going pretty well.

Play nice kids! *ahem*

Have fun. Again, pretty hard to tell.

As I said earlier, not amazing, but also not terrible.

And that's just my opinion.
