Hi, ppl!

Here it is new challenge - build motorized flying machine.
Vehicle must contain 2 parts: "engine" and "flying mechanism".

Filesize: 14.84 kB
Comments: 3
download

Engine is no-hinge-motor of any known (or not) types: collision, spawning, springs, magnetic, etc.

Flying mechanism is an old-style no-script flying device working only on air friction.

Rules:
1) Engine must fit in "Engine" box, flying mechanism (FM) in "Flying mechanism" box.
2) Engine must only generate torque (rotation), but not thrust/attarction. So you have to transmit that torque to FM.
3) No motors on hinges (except for service function like controls)
3) Min density = 0.01
4) Default world-wide air friction (you can play with airFrictionMult)
5) No thyme scripts in FM - only pure mechanics
6) Any scripts in engine part
7) You can adjust gravity to make your vehicle fly
8) Max inertiaMultipler = 1000

Score:

(World's maximum gravity multiplier where you vehicle able to fly) x 100

and

Able to fly with >= 1G +20
Collision engine -10
Attraction engine -10
Springs engine +20
Spawning engine +20
[mod] Bouncing engine +100
New type of engine +10
Algodoo -5
Phun +5
Stable fly up to 100m +20

Prize:
I make scene on winner's request (if he want to).

Contest closed on 1 sep 2010.

If we don't have an engine, can we just put FM in both boxes?

Point of this contest - make motorized helicopter so it must contain engine (since motor hinges forbidden).

Why do you get less points for creating a new type of engine then a known engine?
And with the Phun/Algodoo points can be cheated. Just copy your machine from Algodoo in Phun and rewrite the scripts.

Can we use a motor to "kick start" the engine, i'm using a spring engine and it takes a while to get going so this would be useful.

1. Bouncing engine is very weak so making FM with it very hard. Creativity will be reward but less than hardest known way :D
2. Yes, sure you can port scene to phun but you never can use lasers and inertiaMultipler. So it's not cheating - it's wise choice.

But what if you create an engine that is weaker than a bouncing engine, but the FM can fly?

Rules are rules ;) don't make sux engines.

I can´t load the Contestscene in Phun :/
In what version of algodoo had you built this scene?

Hmm.flying machines aren't my speciality, but I might give this a go. I'm interested to see what other come up with though.

1.7.1 ? ^^ I can´t open it with 1.7.1 only with 1.7.4 :D Very strange bug i think
It´s just a suggestion: If you put the Phunscene to the first post(too), everybody can find it :)

Here is my scene! This thing is an absolute beast. 4 engines working together to produce thrust, powered only by 2 hinges.
Mark away, Kilinich!

No offend Dare, but Kilinich clearly sayd a NON-hinge engine...

non-hinge? it's a bit hard to make a flying machine without hinges ... I think you should change that, Kilinich :wtf:

also, he showed an example of a flying machine that could be entered in this contest:

and it has 132 hinges!

1) Hinges are Allowed!
2) Hinge-Motors are not allowed (Except for controls or service functions)

I didn't sayd that hinges aren't allowed, I only sayd that you had to use a non-hinge engine.

non-hinge = no hinges = no hinges allowed

they mean the same thing, and you misled me by saying non-hinge, when you meant non-MOTOR-hinge.

All rigth, you understand me.
But still you've used motor hinges in your engine, wich isn't allowed.

Yeah, true. It was hard to make this without motor hinges, so we will let Kilinich judge it.

Please read rules carefully. :wtf:

"Flying mechanism is an old-style no-script flying device working only on air friction."
"3) No motors on hinges (except for service function like controls)"
"5) No thyme scripts in FM - only pure mechanics"

Why you left gravity like in my scene 4.4 m/s ?

Anyway - nice try.

I read them, I just thought I could bend them. ;)

But still, it's pretty nice.

I'll make another one probably.
