Operation Northern Watch

Postby StephenAlverez » Sun May 02, 2010 3:38 pm

ENDS MAY 31/ JUNE 1

Alright, it's been a while since I've made a contest, so don't be surprised if this isn't too great...

To keep up with the war-named contests of mine, here is Northern Watch.(Desert Storm was an operation during the gulf war)

The Goal: is to make an aerial vehicle, planes, helis, balloons. You have to fly through the zones as to not get caught by radar, easy enough. (The radar is just two lasers on the edge of the section that when you touch will set off the defense system.
~ You will have 10 (or more) dummy bombs each weighing roughly 10 kilos.
~ You may use fixates, but the hinges you use has to have a breaking point of 250 or under (but why would you want to do that).
~ Obviously have the vehicle fit in the space given, and you can go to the outside edge.

Added because of the bending bonus:
~No gluing to the background - paradigm
~No changing the scoring or the original scene - paradigm

The Twist: NO SPAWNING, yes, no spawning, all other thyme is fine, but you just can't spawn stuff, this means that the K,I,and A wings are not allowedK.I.A. means killed in action (just so you know).
~ Also, your vehicle, not including the engine and bombs, can't be over 100 kilos, the engine can be as heavy as reasonable.

Note: the ONLY time you can spawn is for a balloon, and only for lift, not anything else. I will determine if you use spawners reasonably.

The Map:
Rating: rated 5
Filesize: 5.75 kB

Ratings: 1
download

Here are some examples of some vehicles, I'm not going to set them up, since this is just for ideas. (exclude the gun on the heli, and the plane is much too large)

Rating: rated 6.1
Filesize: 246.86 kB
Comments: 6
Ratings: 3
download

Rating: rated 6.8
Filesize: 375.05 kB

Grading:

I will test your vehicle three times after getting reasonably good at flying it, then I will take the score of the three flights, add them up and divide by three.

I would like you to try to get the in scene score if you are afraid of unfair ruling, I will just see if the score is reasonable by re testing it.

Agility: how fast can it turn and maneuver, probably a high number since there are obstacles. out of 100

Speed: I'll just run the vehicle without armament's, take the vehicle's velocity, times by seven, divide by a hundred. S=(V*7)/100 (This is only gives good points if you go REALLY fast)

Accuracy: Looks, how close to a real plane. out of 10 since it isn't all too important (It's Algodoo)

Rules: does it fit the rules and guidelines. Each violation will be -100

In Scene Score: there will be an initial score in the scene, I'll ad that on.

Can You Land: you have to be able to land at the end. 30

Can You Take Off: you have to be able to take off in the space given. 40

UAV's Get 100 extra points, but only if they work!

Other Bonuses:

~Stealth: 10 points, use only collision group "A." (You'll see why that's stealthy)
~Bending: If it bends the rules so much that I have to change them, I will give 50 points (only to first person to bend the rule).
~Heavyweight: 20 points to the vehicle that can carry over fifty bombs, like that'l ever happen.
~Slow: if your speed score is under .1 and your vehicle is a plane, I will give 25 points.

There will be four classes of vehicle

Plane:

1

2

3

Heli:

1

2

3

Balloon(yes, balloon, but I don't expect any one to do this):

1

2

3

This looks quite good. I think I'll give it a go. But, you should add some more rules because I'm sure there are many things that can be done which will be considered 'cheating'.

Ianno, I will make an exception for balloons. You can make a spawner for a balloon only if the balloon isn't propelled by it, only for lift. I will determine if you use a spawner for lifting or to propel.

the hinge limit is a serious problem for propellers. Just try your own Aroe-Plane with 50 as the breaklimit.

you can use hingeless propellers, like dynamic spring/density engines(NGene)!

I think your being to strict with the rules in this contets. It is really dificult to build a plane in the first place, but disallowing spawing and having a hinge break limit of 50 make it very difficult to build any vehicel.

Ya, well I said I was a bit rusty. And hey, if I can do it, almost anyone who has an IQ above 100 can do it(since under 100 is mentally retarded, and I don't think that's going to happen [even if it could]).

Ok, I tried it on my plane, it didn't work. How about if I change it to 250, since I got a plane that would fit criteria to work on 250 (actually 180, but I'll be nice.).

Sure, but could you explain why you have it there in the first place. I'm not trying to fuck anything up, I just don't see why you want the limit.

And for the record, I think this is one of the better contests atm, so you can't be that rusty.

I just want to make things difficult, and the defense system wont work very well if you can't break. Also, if the engine you make doesn't have a breaking limit, then there really is no limit to how strong the vehicle can be, you could lift thousands of kilos if you wanted, but I don't want something super strong.

If anyone wants me to start off the contest with an entry, I'll be pleased to do so.

Fair enough, and no need for me atleast that you make an entry yourself.
I'll see if I get my UAV working with your rules.

That genuinely made me laugh. It's going to be very hard to score this, but I'll have a go:

No Bombs: -100
No Landing: -100
Bending the Rules (X2!): 100 (spring on the background, changing the scoring)
Speed: 28 (rounded 400) (400 * 7)/100
Stealth: 10
UAV: 100 (I didn't have to do anything!)

__________________________________________

Score: 38 (not adding the infinity on the in scene score!)

Hey, at the moment you are still #1, but you are also the only one who has yet contributed. I also need to edit the score, I forgot that you can get points for landing, and no points are taken if you don't land so...

No Bombs: -100
No Landing: -0
Bending the Rules (X2!): 100 (spring on the background, changing the scoring)
Speed: 28 (rounded 400) (400 * 7)/100
Stealth: 10
UAV: 100 (I didn't have to do anything!)
