Rock Crawling Contest

Postby nylan » Fri Apr 16, 2010 4:33 pm

Hi,

You'll find all details : http://www.algodoo.com/algobox/details.php?id=40400

Hi, you need to create your own "car" able to pass every rock to the end.

You need to respect the litle enclosure to make your car ( not toooo big )

This contest is possible, mine run successfully, even tires at 30rpm:)

You can recover your car on tires after every rock.
Minimal car should be like this : o-o

It's forbiden to make your car runing too fast to jump higher than rocks. It's stupid, so you need to make your car runing slowly.

Good luck

It's not a race against time, so you need to count number of recover to pass every rock. Also please upload your car, to check if your car is really able to win :)

This contest will end the 1st July.

You need more rules and a better scoring system.

Read this: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=336

Also, contests shouldn't be your first post.

Chronos is right.

However, this is a good idea for a contest, and with a little more effort you could make it into something people just HAVE to participate in because it's just that awesome.

What he said. Work on your rules a bit and you should start off with a scenes thread to get you used to the forum. Not bad for a first contest though...

i dont know about the track, but this would be a fun contest

perhaps it would be better to make the track progressive, like starting with common easier obsticals and moving to boulders and then hills and a mountain. Rather than crazy hills and stuff

boulders would hopefully negate the ability to just have a front heavy car, since you have to start at nearly a wall like this ( )
and the hills would make it difficult to make a tall vehicle as the crawler

that is my input as to possible changes

questions: any limits to number of axels like 8.. bonus points, are there available bonus points to alternative engines etc

i will give a shot at this contest as is, but i would like to see these suggestions go in to effect

Hi,

Thank you for all your post.

I don't want a chrono for scoring because like in real Trial, it's not a race against time.

Just count number of fault - Recovery after a rock -

Also, I really think that this track is easy for 2-3th rocks, but really hard ( insane ) for 2 last.

You can build any vehicle with axles or tires, I just want to limit to :

- Need to fit in Litle garage at the beggining
- Do not fly or jump rocks.

IMO, Make a front heavy car and you'll be unable to finish :)

and alternative engine bonus?
like using a bounce engine or spring engine or something?

a front heavy car could finish, it just has to have good placement of the front tire and such

ok, i better get to work!

Is putting a thruster on the top of a car to create downforce legal? :P

I would assume not, but nothing says you can't in the rules. Also for anyone planning on making a flying vehicle, the rules say a "car" which implies it stays on the ground.

Anyway, you couldn't really call this a contest. I would call it a race. It doesn't seem that bad, but contest just isn't the right word.

Heh, I like your style. My best bet to make this work is to have no suspension on the front wheel of something similar to my kamaz 8x4. Basically a long chassis you eliminate most problems.
and to spin the front wheel a good bit faster.
i really just dont want to waste time making an additional scene. maybe my entry will be front heavy just for show :)

for my entry to the contest i am working to utilize rotation
