KERS Contest

Postby Kilinich » Sat Jan 30, 2010 10:45 pm

Welcome to another phundamentalistic contest! :ugeek:
Phun/Algodoo

Goal is to build KERS device (Kinetic Energy Recover System).
Device must fit into blue box (car).
Only real values (positive for friction/spring etc...)
Pure mechanics!
Limited scripting (no spawning, no mass change... means no cheating) - you can use thyme in triggers, gearbox, etc...
mod: you can destroy 1% of car mass on release.

As you can see, platform accelerates and release your car to track. You must accumulate kinetic energy somehow before black box limit. After car complete stop you press Enter trigger and go as far as you can! Car can hit black box or stop near (and run after trigger pressed) - no matter.

New points system:
Climb - 1m = 1point
Engineering - 10 points max
Realistic look - 5 points max
Winner is car with max points!

Prize: I will build scene on winner's request (if he wants to).

Are you allowed to make a power cell like in a F1 Car?

When does it end? And can you have killers or +inf values?

davidz, even if your scene is illegal your construction is interesting. i also was going to plan to save energy in rotation of a fly wheel but i'm not very good in mechanics

Just one more question: my design deletes some parts after pressing enter to re-engage the flywheel. There should be some limit of mass of destroyed parts, because it can be exploitet much the same way the present design. On the other hand, forbidding any mass change will make destroying parts unusable.

Hmm. Good question... Ok, let's limit it to 1% of car mass.

My attempt gets just about 2 meters! But I will improve it before it gets on the web. (the reason it gets two meters is because it is totally shnazy. It has a gearbox that changes with a double rotating winding mechanism!)

Edited my entry. Reaches about 12/13m only, but I don't have any idea how to get more. Loses some energy when hitting wall, but the design cannot make full stop.

my try makes a burnout, and even complies to the rules.
shall i upload it now, or let you guys wait and guess what it is (yes, it DOES comply to the rules, i checked it 3 times)
