It uses an obvious loophole, though—all you've built is a KE–kick-started attraction motor. And actually, "mechanics only" could imply "no attraction".

8 points for design already got, just tune it to the top.

I don't have ANY idea what you did to reach 20m, without breaking 1% mass rule.
Anyway, i'll try to tune it, but i'll be inactive for next 6-7 days due to physics exam :geek: .

I made this.. It's not Kers. It's a generator and power source. I may try to make a coil spring later, but for now I can only think of 3 lagitament ways to make this work: Flywheel, Spring powered momentum using gears to cock back a weight, and a coil spring which can only be made multiple boxes and hinges. All 3 of these run into the same problem. The output of energy is always less than the input needed.

So here. An "electric" device:

Thanks Kilinich. I didn't stick to physics, true, but I gave my self more rules to replace that one.

Use up the power at twice the rate at which it makes it.
Use the ratchet system so it won't roll backwards. which creates drag.
And use as simple tyme as possible.. since you already had a similar rule.

The front wheel is already tymed to be the drive motor, all you have to do is set the forward controll to enter.
So sure, if you remove the flywheel, reset the drive motor on the front, and change the rate at which it makes or uses power, then yeah, it can go forever.
I plan on useing this simple device in an upcoming scene that will involve 1 larger vehicle that carries another smaller vehicle onboard that charges up and is used for tight places and solving problems in an obsticle course and then has to get back to the mothership before the battery dies. It's been an idea for a while now.

I would like to point out that the laws of conservation of energy and mass basically make this a kind of pointless contest, right? Unless you can collect energy while the vehicle is accelerating, the energy you absorb into your recovery system while it moves will slow it down, and friction inherent in the system will make any system of discharge only make up for part of the distance lost by the charging.

Your best bet is just to make something insanely heavy and with low friction. That way you can jettison 1% mass right after the acceleration stops and the extremely heavy mass keeps you going through the air friction.

Unless I am somehow wrong about the laws of physics :P

after accelerating all the kinetic energy the object has got can be converted to some energy that gets saved with KERS plus a bit of frictional energy that just "flies away". everything's fine because there's a maximum weight i guess. im not sure anymore :D

Guys, just remember that this contest is about going as far as you can, the best you can. There's no way to make energy out of nothing, remember?

Your vehicle starts out with a set amount of kinetic energy, and by the laws of physics and rules of this contest, there is no way to make more of it. Therefore, any system will simply slow you down and lose energy to air friction, etc.

Unless the vehicle travels at a constant high speed for a while where skimming the energy doesn't slow it down because it's still being pushed by the other thing. That would be the only way to circumvent the rules and laws of conservation of mass and energy.

(Maybe use some sort of air friction thing that stores energy as you are accelerated... but that only works if the accelerator works by getting you up to a max speed then letting go, not if it rust runs for a given amount of time.)

You can't get over a maximum height. That's for sure. You don't get ernergy out of nothing. I don't know which problem you've got^^

That's exactly what I am saying here! There's only one maximum height, and getting there the best means the least energy lost overall. I dunno anymore... Maybe there's a way to do it, the physics say it's a pointless pursuit. Except for the ramp being at a hard angle, and the restrictions of the simulation.

The spirit of the contest is valid. Mechanically store energy that will propel the vehicle the farthest up the incline. The physics only say that you can't go on forever.. I cheated but at least I realize that it's just a toy. Think of a wind up car. Michellangelo build simillar studies. I couldn't make a proper coil spring so I never resubmitted. But a heavy flywheel with a complex triggering or clutch/transmission system will work. The point isn't to make power after the stopping block.. it's to use the power you have gathered.

Well then lets see it!

BTW I made one by tweaking the box weight and friction that made it almost to 43.

My entry for this contest
I can't find any rules it breakes.

also using windmills while being on the first car is also possible(rules doesn't prohibit that)

EDIT: ok it doesn't fit inside the box, but this could be fixed(not gone do it as it will lag)

I'm thinking, that doesn't fit in the blue box. RaRa... but if timed right, it does more the car quite far.

Mine goes 45.1 m up the ramp. No funny business other than putting the center of gravity towards the back and optimising everything else. Design based on a mirror image of the MblK1 entry.
