Spring Shotgun Tutorial

Hey, this is my first tutorial, so sorry if I did anything wrong. I tried to make everything as simple and easy to follow as possible.

The point of this tutorial is to teach people how to make a spring powered shotgun. It is divided into 12 steps.

CLICK THE PICTURES TO SEE THEM FULL SIZED!!!

Step 1

Create a rectangle, preferably not a square. This is going to be the shotgun shell.

Image

Step 2

Make enough circles to cover the rectangle. These will be the pellets.

Image

Step 3

Move the rectangle to the front and lower its opacity enough to see the circles.

Image

Step 4

Add fixates to all of the circles.

Image

Step 5

Create a frame around the shotgun shell. Make sure the frame is not connected to the shell in any way at this point, and make sure the frame has an opening on the right side. (The left side works too, but for the purpose of this tutorial make an opening on the right side.)

Image

Step 6

Create a spring and attach it to the shotgun shell and the frame. Then create a rectangle and attach it to the shotgun shell and the frame. This rectangle will act as a holding bar.

Image

Step 7

Create a rectangle that fills most of the right side of the frame. Give the rectangle a collision menu of B and and make it a killer. Attach it to the frame, but do NOT attach it to the shotgun shell!

Image

Step 8

Give the shotgun shell a collision menu of B. DO NOT GIVE THE PELLETS A COLLISION MENU OF B!

Image

Step 9

Give the spring a Target Length of 259 m. (Note: Depending on the size and weight of the shotgun, you may have to raise the Target Length. Do not raise the Spring Constant/Spring Strength as it can glitch sometimes.)

Image

Step 10

Give the holding bar a destroy key of f.

Image

Step 11 (Optional)

Select the shotgun shell, then click selection and click select circles. Then click Geometry Actions and click add tracers.

Image

Step 12

Add a hinge to aim, and then blast away! By the way, if you don't know already, the f key fires.

Example Shotgun

Here is an example shotgun if you are having problems figuring out how it all works.

It's a one shot 'gun'. :/

And don't double post, it's only been 10 MINUTES.

It wasn't really meant to be innovative, groundbreaking, or revolutionary. Just a simple tutorial.

spread in this one is unrealistic - and the whole shotgun round is unrealistic too.
i've made an other shotgun shell. it IS unrealistic too, but... much less than yours

Well... It really wasn't meant to be realistic... Cause in a 2D physics world like Phu--- Algodoo, nothing is actually realistic. I didn't post this in the scene section, I posted it in the tutorial section, so why are you commenting about why the shotgun is unrealisic?

Well, if it's realistic, it generally works better.

You want feedback? I'll give you feedback.
1) A 'one-shot' gun isn't a good start. It's hardly a gun. You should've made a tutorial wherein it automatically reloads the ammo and so on.
2) This is too simple.
3) A gun that relies on the destroy key is not usually a good thing.

I think it is great...
tried to make it reloadable, and all i have to do is make it fire the right shell when it is commanded

Yah, I made one of those too. I also made one that fires a bunch at the same time, its moderately powerful.

@RicH: This tutorial is meant for people who don't already know how to make one. From there they can create as many re-loadable shotguns as they want. I don't care, I'm just spreading the knowledge of spring guns. Last I checked they weren't that well known. I might be wrong though.

Okay, I know that I have been burning bumper recently but... I think that it is okay to do so here. Burn.

More ammo and a more realistic 'spread' of bullets when shot would be nice.

Spambot bumped it. Under Ground posted another stupid "OMG! You bumped. That's wrong!" reply while being more useless then the one who bumped(not in this case, but in other "real" bumps). It's stupid really.
